As a neutral fan in this argument, this is a pretty damn fair trade for Jones. Amirov projects to be a top 6 scoring winger and is likely to break into the nhl this coming season.

2022 draft is deep. Very deep. Those picks are more valuable than you realize.

I want to comment on the Vanecek trade as well. We don’t need Engvall, but we also need more immediate draft capital. A second round pick for a draft two years away as the main piece coming back is quite underwhelming. I’d like a 2021 or 2022 2nd coming back. Otherwise, a guy getting picked in the 2023 second round may not be in the league for 5-6 years after this trade happens.

My thoughts exactly. You beat me to it. Washington doesn't want or need Engvall and a 2023 second-round pick probably won't see the NHL until 2026, if ever.

In all fairness leaf fans are trying to do what they can to make the leafs better in their eyes and we don't have a lot of options, although I get your point.

To be fair, the trade would likely be with Seattle.

Assuming WSH protects Samsonov over Vanacek.
