You could argue that trouba was our worst "regular" defenseman on the roster night in and night out last year.

Fox was certainly better than he was
So was lindgren, Miller, and most arguably smith.

No way. Trouba was way better than anyone not named Fox on the back end. Our season really suffered when he went out. He made noticeable improvements over his first season. He had to learn a new system with a sporadic coaching style, without a quality partner. We need to tone it down with the Trouba hate, it's completely un-warranted. He's overpaid, but it is what it is. At least we're not SJ.

Eichel remaining with the Sabres is more realistic than him being traded. He may find the long awaited success under head coach Don Granato. Under Granato's interim period, several Sabres stepped up and excelled. Keeping most of the team in place, making key adjustments, and Granato filling his staff with quality and effective coaches, the Sabres can be good enough not to dwell in the Atlanta Division basement.

Yeah, I don't see the panic coming from anywhere but the media.

Yk why I hate trouba? Because if he's getting 8 per year, then what do we pay fox? and what does that mean for the rangers cap situation in the future?

I find the media laughable most of the time.

I have eyes and might I add a doctorate in Statistics. When you rely on charts in the sport with the most amount of variance, they don't really translate to meaning anything. Look at Brendan Smith, he was not worth the 4.5 mil we were paying him but heyat least he had a high corsi!

I was going to defend you because you're new but

    Nah

Not a one of us in the analytics community would say he was worth that $ as a ranger naturally. If you bothered to check his rel Corsi for NYR was -0.5 which isn't that bad a far cry from around 3 rel as a red wing. So he likely had just a 5 year apex which is common. He was still solid as a Ranger and an excellent pker so it wasn't that bad. Mostly just unlucky.

That's a fair Eichel trade IMO. Buffalo accepts!

it's a bit of a stretch to call Trouba a cap dump.

Not s stretch at all. He has a big contract that no team will pay to acquire

Trouba's cap hit has nothing to do with what Fox will garner - they are not comparables.
the ticket that Makar signs will impact what Fox does...however, i do think Drury has the slight upper hand since Fox doesn't want to wear any other NHL jersey outside of a Rangers one.

But you're asking us to trade cost controlled assets to spend 12.3% of the cap to maybe address one center position. What are we going to pay Mika, Lafreniere, Kakko, Fox, Lundkvist, etc.? You're not being consistent.

Trouba is still a top 4 D man. He makes 3m too much. It's fine.

sure, his contract has some term on it, but it isn't like he isn't unplayable in a top 4 role, he plays 22 minutes a night.
cap dumps are Okposo, Skinner, Eriksson, etc.

maybe he can be considered a dump in the last 2/3 years but in today's terms, he isn't a dump.

If that's the case, then players like Myers, Subban, Burns, Karlsson wouldn't be cap dumps either because they play 22+ Minutes a night and have a top 4 role

Trouba is the more desirable player of those and not by a little.

pump the brakes. Granato isn't Jesus...
even with Granato behind the bench, the Sabres have a boat load of work to do - with or without Eichel.

out of those 4, how many are in top 4 roles and deserve to be rather than be necessity? how many can still be relied on defensively in critical roles?
two of them are signed for just as long or longer than Trouba, are considerably older and get paid more.
also, Subban is the worst one out of all of them - he is the literal definition of cap dump.

Subban isn't a cap dump to the Devils

He's still a top 4 dman, just not worth 9M. And he only has 1 year left
