Offer Sheets Everywhere

Created by: Hurricanes_WPG
Team: 2021-22 Tampa Bay Lightning
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 7, 2021
Published: Jul. 7, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
It's not realistic to expect this, but I have seen and even made some "hey let's annoy Tampa by overpaying guys in offersheets" for the Hurricanes' ACGM posts, so I want to see what could actually happen if all 3 half-decent RFAs get an offer at the high end of 3RP compensation, or the high end of no comp.

Lightning fans, who would you match and who would you let walk?
ABB: 1.35MM
Foote: 2.05MM
Colton: 2.05MM

Sorry for the trade values being off.

No thanks, that’s too much for one year of Palat. I would give Stalock, and a third. That would be the most.

The Bolts are choosing between Foote and Colton in expansion anyways, right?

Could make this decision easier.

I really want the hawks to go after Point next year with an OS. I would give the 4 FRP comp level no problem. I know it's not realistic but Point is awesome and there's no way Tampa could match Mcdavid money. They're praying he takes a tampa discount around where Kucherov is

I don't think they're protecting either. I think it will be Stamkos-Kucherov-Point-Cirelli McDonaugh-Sergachev-Hedman-Cernak and hoping Seattle takes Gourde, Killorn, or Johnson

I don’t think he’d accept. Blackhawks are trending downwards while in Florida they’re still contending. Plus he’d have a much better team to work with and no state income tax.

I do this a lot too as a NSH fan myself but not to annoy at all; it's just what all other GMs should do with how incredibly cap constrained they are ultimately

Edit:

Have to imagine they leave McDonagh exposed for the same reason Gourde, Killorn and Palat would be, especially with Sergachev available. Then they can go 7-3-1 and protect guys like Colton, Joseph and ABB

I think ABB is really underrated and should get an OS 100% it's interesting how similar his career is so far to that of Johnson and Gourde especially

Both of whom started with about 3 pts in their first 15 nhl games as well I mean it's a bit uncanny all told

Not saying he'll be = to them but quite compelling

I feel like the hawks are closer than people think. Maybe i'm biased because i'm a hawks fan but that's what I think. One year missing the playoffs in a year our captain didn't play a single game is an unfair situation to say we're trending down. We're the youngest team in the league, development of the kids, mainly Dach and Boqvist, along with Toews return and our plethora of cap space and this team can easily make the playoffs next year. Look in the west, Colorado, Winnipeg, Minnesota in the central and Vegas, Edmonton, in the pacific are all better than us on paper, but after that there's no reason we can't be better than the likes of Calgary, St. Louis, Nashville, Dallas who are all trending down as well by your definition. Seattle is a wild card, who knows what they do. Point stands the hawks can easily make the playoffs next year if they stay relativly healthy.

Second of all. 12 mil in Chicago is still more than 9 mil in Tampa. That point is pretty clear. There's atcually an income tax calculator on CF if you want to check it out yourself. 12 mil in Chicago nets Pount about 6.8 million, where 9 million in Tampa is 5.4 mil. About a 1.4 million difference. Is 1.4 million enough to sway him away from Tampa? I have no idea and neigther do you, but theres an argument there for sure. Are we sure Tampa can even afford to pay him 9 mil without really dismanteling that roster? I don't think they can. Sergachev is up a year after that as well. If point declines an OS and takes 9 from tampa, you can go after Sergachev in a year and it will be even harder for tampa to come up with the money.

It's all highly unrealistic but for the sake of discussion tampa would definitely be screwed if teams started coming with Offer Sheets, especially on thier big name players needed extentions the next 2 years. The cap crunch tis year is nothing compared to what tampa has coming in 2022 and 2023.

Definitely a high quality rental but all that does is create another hole in the roster that the Oilers need to fill with a more expensive player from free agency. And we all know how easy it is to get free agents to Edmonton. If the Oilers are giving a 2nd plus, it's likely not Bear but a prospect that would go with the pick.

Thought McDonaugh had a NMC, my bad. Yeah I'd imagine they do exactly what you said, protecting Colton, Joseph, and ABB and leaving Gourde, Killorn, Palat, and McDonaugh available.

Did you miss the "Schmidt to Vancouver" trade last summer? When a team is facing a cap crunch, they aren't getting top assets for their mid-tier players - especially when that guy only has a year left on his contract.

Guess it comes down to what the guys want more, money or winning? If they choose the previous then I can see your point, but if the latter I have no reason to believe Chicago gives a greater opportunity to do so than Tampa.
