Leafs Post Vegas

Created by: jmac490
Team: 2017-18 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 6, 2017
Published: Feb. 6, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The Pastarnak trade is extremely far fetched, but the Leafs are having a hell of a season being run by Matthews, Kadri etc. I think bringing in Ghost makes the team more offensive, while paying for Ghost on a low end (his value right now sucks). Boston gains some defensive depth and offensive depth in their prospect pool while also getting a mid to late 1st round pick. Marincin going to Vegas really doesn't hurt Toronto. As is the team may still be too young, but it would be a solid core to work with. Cap may be the only issue with Nylander needing a new contract in the upcoming year, but at the same token we might lose Komarov, Bozak and JVR. The Hyman, Brown deals are just bridge contracts to see how the Leafs play together in the upcoming couple of years. If Hyman and Brown continue to impress with Matthews then they may get a new deal. I would like to see a Pastarnak, Matthews, Marner/Nylander line at some point in the Buds future.

Vancouver is light on the wings, and deep at center. Toronto lacks center depth big time. I think this trade benefits both teams.

not even clsoe to value for Ghost regardless of what you think it is at this moment. If you're trading for Ghost its for the future and not what he is doing now since the whole dynamic will change on a new team. He probably isn't signing a bridge deal lower than 3.8-4 mil and it would take one of your forward prospects to get him from the Flyers - i.e. Nylander.

Leafs have so many forwards at the moment they have no need to trade for more. Timashov, Bracco, Kapanen, Gauthier, and Leipsic could all realistically crack next years lineup. Only long term move that makes sense is to trade some of them for a top 2 d man to play with Reilly

Ghost would cost more, and Leafs really don't know need a non defensive Dman. No centre ice depth? No use trading for a guy (Cassel) who can't make the NHL. Matthews, Kadri, Bozak, Gauthier, maybe Nylander seem OK in depth. Bruins need Pastrnak, who else do they really have on the wings? At with those deals you are 3 mill from the cap with only 20 players signed. Not realistic.
