How does it not? It clears cap space and makes room on the roster. It's not like DeBrusk is seen as part of the solution in the HC"s eyes. And it is not out of the question that Maksimov could not make the team, his is a good prospect with a killer shot and 2-way ability and can play either Wing. I like the player a bunch, seen him play live a few times.

I personally wouldn't do this deal, but I suspect we will see some version of this trade go down this summer.

I give you credit for explain why it makes sense for Boston, unlike every other JDB/EDM trade I've seen. However....

Boston doesn't need to free up cap space, they have $30 million right now and the 6th most in the NHL.

Boston has enough bottom 6 guys in the system and Maximov is just that. Thats assuming he even makes the NHL. So really in the end your asking Boston to trade a kid whose had success (but had a down year) in the NHL, for a kid who maybe makes the NHL and a 2nd round pick.

To skull_king point it doesn't help them win now.

Eichel and Hamilton eat over half of that $30 million and who knows how much Hall comes in at....
