I can't see Hamilton coming to Edmonton when there are other options out there for him, especially in the U.S.

In 2021, Alex Stalock let in fewer goals than every Ottawa goaltender, he also never made a single save.

I'm not sure where you think he fits in Ottawa's goalie depth

    Murray - NHL
    Forsberg - NHL
    Gustavsson - AHL
    Daccord - AHL
    Sogaard - AHL
    Mandolese - AHL
    Meriläinen - Minors

Detroit got a 4th for retaining a little over $1M on David Savard at the trade deadline. Retaining half of Koskinen is going to cost more than what you're offering

This is Stevie Y doing his buds a solid. After schooling his mentor in trades last season, Mr Yzerman feels guilty and collects 3 picks, which is what his goal is this season, apparently...

It's a whole lot easier and less expensive to buy Koskinen out.

He already retained 50%, so the remaining salary is now $2.275M. If Detroit retains 50% of that, it comes to... just over $1M.

    Magic, huh? cool

That is a pretty impressive list of "who the hell are these guys". I clearly see why you'd have issue with a cheap, veteran, solid, experienced NHL goaltender, when he would have to overcome this intimidating list of inexpensive, inexperienced not-NHL goaltenders. I completely understand why you'd not want your team to give away a valuable 7th pick when they could spend it on another Goaltender to add to this intimating list, instead of a bonafide NHL Goaltender, can't expect Sens management to do something that the management of a team like Tampa Bay would do.

So, no. I made a bit of a mistake. I didn't factor in the prorating aspect. Detroit didn't pay 25% of Savard's whole contract last year, just 14 games worth. Rough math here, so take it with a mild grain of salt:
$1,062,500 retained over 56 games is roughly $18,973.21 per game. Savard played 14 games with Tampa, so approximately $265,625 of retention. Detroit got a 4th for retaining $265,000.
With that in mind, no. The offer is not good.

    Magic, huh?

    That's funny

Trade makes sense because six goalies under contract for 5 spots just isn't enough, lol

So what you're saying is there's either going to be a trade or two, or Ottawa is going to have 2 AHL teams in the AHL, instead of 1 in the AHL and the other in the NHL, like they've had for the past few seasons 😊.

Seriously though, that is far too many minor league goalies. Good thing Hoglander was dropped. But for the quantity, there isn't a lot of NHL-quality tenders in the org today.

It is mind boggling how many good goalies have been there. Ottawa has been the envy of the NHL when it comes to young guardien de but, off the top of my head, flash in the pan Hammond, Elliott, Lehner, Bishop and the latest in Driedger (I've probably missed a few names) , so it is possible 3 of these and even Hoglander are NHL stars 3 or 4 years down the road.

I am honestly curious if you are happy with the goaltending going into next season?

Yes, and there’s an issue with too many goalies in Ottawa. I’m expecting Seattle to claim one, two in the NHL, two in the AHL, one in the ECHL, and one in junior (Kingston).

Murray is a solid starter, not top10, but capable, Forsberg is okay, but he’s under contract so he’s the backup.

One of Gustavsson or Daccord will probably be selected by Seattle, but if Seattle takes a forward, then one of these two goalies will be traded. Sogaard is playing in Belleville (AHL), and Mandolese should head to the ECHL.

Ottawa is just being cautious about losing a goalie, so they have an extra, and they have enough promise to get some AHL piece in a return if/when traded.

Stalock would be better than Forsberg, but any trade for Stalock would need to send Forsberg the other way, and then Ottawa still has to lose one either to expansion or trade, after the expansion draft.

Gustavsson was pretty decent last season, but I’m really excited about Sogaard.
