I actually wonder if Tarasenko to Minny would be something that would make Kaprizov want to stay in the NHL.

Uhh yeah it is? There’s tons of talk about whether or not he wants to go back to Russia. It’s absolutely a question that exists.

Those talks have absolutely no ground. I was explaining why it is so in one of the previous threads

I do not think he actually goes back to Russia. I have heard that is more of a negotiation tactics for him to get the contract he wants. I think he signs in Minnesota no matter what this offseason but the contract depends on how Guerin sets us up to try and be a Stanley Cup team if he stays long-term or not.

Also as my thoughts on Tarasenko, I love the guy but not a need for this team. I think he is a very risk player and Wild should not consider it.

If it does not work out, he just goes to ltir. I think that is worth gambling

This is exactly why Weekes' tweet was disastrous.

Kaprizov going back to Russia makes absolutely no sense. This whole thing has been about money, Kaprizov's agent is the same guy who landed Panarin and Bobrovsky mega deals and he wants to do the same with Kaprizov once Kaprizov is a free agent. Right now Kaprizov is a 10.2(c)RFA which means the Wild are the only NHL team that can sign him, so it's here or Russia. We hold his RFA rights for the next 3 years, so the belief is that his agent wants a 3 year deal to bring him straight to unrestricted free agency for a monster contract. The KHL's cap is like $12M USD and we'll probably offer at least half that on a 4-5 year deal, there's no way he makes that kind of money in the KHL even with under the table payment. So if Kaprizov wants the most money he can get (he does) he's not going back to Russia.

I originally thought the Russia stuff was stupid, but the reasoning behind maybe wanting to go back made more sense when I listened to podcasts and stuff that talked about it. Maybe he didn’t like being in America because of the pandemic situation. Maybe it left a sour taste in his mouth. Maybe he misses his family and is concerned about not being able to see them for a while.

I do agree that it’s more likely he just wants his contract that he’s asked for. But to suggest it’s outlandish and no chance of being real (as the OP commented) is definitely not true.

I'd take the risk too. It lets us have great 1st and 2nd lines if it works out. If Greenway and a 1st gets it done, we definitely should do it

It has no chance of being true. KK was very careful when talking here and made it clear that he wants to come back. GMBG has repeatedly indicated that talks are as hot as ever. Both sides have wants and needs. This deal will get done.

All the speculation about why KK was in Russia at all was silly hype. Don't fall for it.
