I don’t think you can retain for only one year

I don't think you can retain salary on the expansion picks themselves. You'd have to trade Faulk to the Kraken, who select a 2nd player also

Ranger's aren't the right trade partner here, in my opinion.
Especially at that cost...
if a trade were to transpire, one of the 2 could be in play, but not both.

No problem. Spread it out over two years.

With NYR loaded with D, thought this might fly.

Pavel Zacha might've convinced some people that he's a good hockey player but I'm not one of them. Definitely not worth that package to me.

You can't retain for one year, And it's doubtful the Rangers can afford Tarasenko New York has $7,550,000 in bonuses going out next season. So good luck with that.

Why not? Who's coming up short in this deal? Not trying to be snarky.

You're trading "2021-22 Tarasenko" for "2018-19 Tarasenko" prices. And that's after the fact that he himself has asked for a trade.

No chance the Rangers give up that much.

Devils would likely accept.
I think Dunn plus 2nd would probably get it done for Zacha.
Maybe another piece like late pick or depth player.

He is a good hockey player.
Just much better offensively at wing than at center.
Was a point-per-game player on Nico's wing this season.

Sure, I wasn't trying to go on the attack, he's a fine player, just not worth Dunn and Sanford and 16oa. If there weren't expansion issues I wouldn't trade Dunn for him straight up, nor the 16oa on its own.

I think he would be worth a bit more than either Dunn or 16th overall to most teams.
I said Dunn plus 2nd - which sounds about right to me.

I mean, Rangers aren't touching that. They're giving up 2 fantastic defensive prospects for a hurt Tarasenko.

Adding offense isnt a need for the Rangers, while Schneider and Robertson are a need for them.

Maybe Robertson and a cap dump... but Rangers don't really have any cap dumps right now.

Elsewhere, we've discussed something bigger like Tarasenko + Thomas for Buchnevich + Chytil.
Chytil could change into Robertson, with some retention on Tarasenko, and some picks to even it out.

Forwards Zacha outscored this season:

Taylor Hall Konecny Couture Meier Kadri Eberle

🤔

He had a productive season but he got a pretty sweet role in NJ with tons of PP and good linemates / Nico centering; he shot 16%, didn't look good defensively.

Players tied with zacha in 5v5 scoring this season: Trevor Moore, cody ceci, travis zajac happy

I'm not sold - really this seems like a perfect trade high candidate for the Devils - but I've been wrong plenty of times.
