Description
I wonder, who’s gonna be on this team in 3 years? Thinking if we don’t resign Mika or Strome, we’ll definitely need an upgrade at center. I don’t think Kreider and Trouba will both be here in 3 years either. Should be really interesting to see what happens here.

More of a placeholder. If you read the description I mentioned not seeing those guys on the team in 3 years.

Detroit takes that for sure... We'd have to make a subsequent move, as we're already heavy on RD, but we'd make it work

Yeah it’s not even a matter of not liking him, just the contract makes it tough in 3-4 years when we need to resign guys. This probably also depends on whether our prospects develop properly or not on the right side as well, cause if not I’ve got no issues with running Fox and Trouba 20-25 minutes a night and using a cheap 3D vet option to fill in the gap.

Doesn’t mean much to me. Guys get traded all the time regardless of captaincy or NMC.

Let's say you name Kreider captain at the start of 2021-22. And you trade them during the 2023 offseason. That means he's you captain for 1.5 years. I haven't been a hockey fan for that long but I don't remember a captain only being there for that short of time

I personally think they should wait another year or 2 and then name Fox captain with Lindgren and Laf as the alternates, along with Breadman who already is one.

What about Kaako? Not captain material? I don't know much about him except that he thinks NY is a nice city

I mean I guess we’d have to see. Maybe an alternate one day, but I really like what I see out of Fox, Lindgren and Laf. I see them as the leaders of this team in the future.

Chris Kreider was definitely the leading candidate a year ago, but now the front runners are easily Jacob Trouba and Ryan Lindgren

I did an exercise just like this today (did not publish it though). I ultimately had the Rangers signing Sean Monahan in free agency to pair with Mika Zibanejad.

Interesting thought exercise. I think Mika will likely get resigned, but agree that Strome is out after 21-22. I would've agreed with you on Krieder if Quinn were still our coach, but with Gallant I think Krieder slots in well and will likely stick around. Trouba is a 50-50 call, but I think is probably out by 22-23 to make cap space for Fox, Lundkvist, and Miller, as well as our plethora of young forwards.

    Thanks for sharing!

The problem is Trouba's clauses don't ease up until 2024, also welcome to CF

Great point - likely depends on whether or not we compete for a playoff spot by then. If we don't, or are on the bubble, it might be possible to convince him to waive his clauses to move to a better team. Hopefully GM Drury doesn't just buy him out and add to our long history of big buy-outs...

    Mika - $8.25x7
    Monny - $7.5x7

Now that’s definitely not a contract I’d give Monahan on July 9, 2021 but in two years it can be. I just wanted a center who’s worth that much in 2023 whether it’s Monny or someone else. I wanted to sign Ryan O’Reilly but he was too expensive. He’ll make north of $9M

Doesn't make much sense with his short tenure, likely Mika or Kreider
