No real harm in the contract. Definitely needs to improve to become a mainstay NHL'er, could be his last shot with the Rangers.

I assume this means they'd rather protect Blackwell than him. Good deal to keep Blackwell or if he ends up playing for them next year

This says Blackwell over Gauthier because if you proctect Gauthier both Blackwell and Rooney qualify

Decent 4C/depth forward. This contract really can't hurt them, but it's a prove it deal for Howden. Still a good signing even if he doesn't play much with the Rangers.

If you are Ron Francis, you pick him or Gauthier? (Blackwell is going to be protected)

IMO there's a high chance both become busts, but I pick Howden because it is harder to get center depth for an expansion team.

I mean, it's a one year deal for less than a mil so who cares about the contract, but he is not good at all.

Dude hasn't really progressed since rookie season. In fact his best numbers were in 18-19. Solid signing nonetheless.
