Perfect offseason

Created by: Propeller09
Team: 2021-22 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 9, 2021
Published: Jul. 9, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Trade Mrazek at deadline if they are feeling comfortable with Swayman/Vladar or Rask coming back .

Rask may not be ready, but should have a decent sense as to what Swayman is.

I have little to no faith in Kase staying healthy.

I think that’s really far from perfect. Dunn is not the kind of d man the bruins should be adding.

Bit of a steep package for a middle pairing defenseman and an aging forward with injury issues that never may get back into high numbers again. Not to mention the 7.5 mil contract he has.

That "steep package" still managed to contribute less than said middle pairing dman and injury prone forward. Who, it sounds like is not happy with STL's training staff.
Dunn is only 24 and is a slightly bigger version of Grzelcyk. I will take that over Zboril or Vaakanianan at this point. Tarasenko is also 29. That is not really aging, especially with 2 years left on the deal, it's not like he will be 37 when the deal ends. If he is injured again, they can LTIR him, so not really worried about the cap space. Also - he is only 29, and he doesn't have a ton of wear and tear other than the shoulder (which is big), over the last two years. I am not worried about his age. Injury is the worry. IF he is healthy, he is really really good. Worth the risk of Debrusk IMO. Frederic is fun, but he isn't overly good. Goodrow is similar, but probably more skilled, or at least more polished.

Why? They aren't going to land a true 1LD - It would take a near miracle to get anyone better than Grzelcyk, which - Dunn is, or at least there is an argument. Hopefully they hit the jackpot with Lohrie - They should have a good idea in the next 6 months.

They 100% are resigning Miller. Probably the same deal and he will play when he is healthy. That is their right side. Clifton as the extra. They gave up a 2nd for Reilly? So, I assume they try to retain him. Love him as a 3rd pairing guy.

So, they need a 1LD or 2LD and depth. With Lohrei coming up, and the overall lack of availability of another LD I don't see them doing much better. Dunn, Graves (trade w/Seattle), Hanafin or Klefbom seem to be their options. All varying degrees of concern. Maybe Eckholm, but that would cost a fortune, or Nashville waits and deals at deadline for more.

Wrong style of play. He isn’t that good either. Plenty of options in UFA that are a far better fit.

Martinez, oleksiak, murray, maybe even koekkoek. Point is, bruins need a more defensively sound option. You may have noticed that the second carlo went down they were lost. Dunn is the polar opposite of what they need. Best case scenario, go after lindholm.

Not sure I want to build a team around injuries. I don't really want any part of Martinez. Likely his last deal. He is getting old, he will cost too much
Oleksiak is interesting, but I he might get a decent payday and I am not sure he really helps.

Yes, they fell apart when Carlo got hurt, but that is because Lauzon was hurt and had a broken hand and was already slotted higher than he should have been. Gryzelcyk is really ineffective on D in the playoffs. Good puck mover. Clifton was exposed for being a 3rd pairing 7th dman getting too much ice time. Zboril was hurt? scratched? no idea. Tinordi was cut from Nashville, Miller was injured again too.

Point being... It isn't that they need a defensive dman. They needed NHL Dmen. They had two by the final game. 2.5 if you want to count Lauzon, who had the hand thing, and certainly not really anyone outside 73 and 48 that you wanted getting any serious ice time. Yes, it was when Carlo went down, but they were also onto their 8th or 9th dman on top of starting the season with 2-3 unknowns to begin with. Tinordi who is a defensive dman had 12m in game 6.

Murray is perfect, but will only play 22 games. koekkoek - no thanks, or maybe for league min. He is a 7th dman.

I know Dunn has been protected, but he is a Possesion monster in regular season and playoffs. He would help. substantially. He is better than you are giving him credit for and only 24

Ah. Possession monster. The fancy stats are involved, and for that reason, I’m out.

Yikes.
A) possession is not a fancy stat. at all.
B) It's not even complicated and really tells a clear picture.
C) For example:
Corsi:
Tinordi - 37.8%
McAvoy - 57.2%
Clifton - 47.2%

If you have the puck more than the other team when you are on the ice, it's a good thing. Pretty simple. 50% would be even.
