Isles 2022 Champs

Created by: titoheartanna
Team: 2021-22 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 9, 2021
Published: Jul. 9, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
A lot of moves but gives us a first rd pick to restock + flexibility to make move at the deadline.
I know getting Landeskog is a long shot, but he's the perfect Lou/Trotz player/leader and could be tempted to christen a new arena and play for Trotz. Casey is taking a hometown discount in exchange for years, Carolina overpays to replace Dougie Hamilton. Vancouver needs skilled vet with playoff experience thus deal for bails who we love but his best hockey is behind him. Refurbished 3rd line that will play good 2 way hockey and can put up points, esp if Hyman overachieves.

I think I could be open to admitting that Landeskog is a long shot to leave COL if you paid him properly, but you are looking at 8mAAV+ for that to be the case. Having your long shot cake and eating it too is surely too extreme. Same with Hyman. You are massively underpaying these guys.

Also teams wont be so eager to take your cap dumps but should you do it at least target rebuilding teams. If you are targeting contenders you likely need to take some money back

Leddy would never be considered a Hamilton replacement. If they were trying to overpay to replace him they’d find a comparable player at least or overpay him versus what we think he’s worth. Rationale makes no sense.

You’re also severely overpaying majority of your signings.

I agree except for the overpaying part but I think you meant underpay anyways

That's def fair feedback. I guess I underestimated the value Landeskog will command. Regarding cap dumps - Carolina is gonna lose Dougie Hamilton so Leddy could be a viable replacement who has much needed playoff and Cup experience. St. Louis is going to lose Taresenko and Eberle could slide right in there and doesn't have health issues. I think the Bailey trade is more than fair and finally, for the Kraken to take Ladd, Holstrom is a 1st rd pick who has a ton of upside + 3 picks is fair. They could also potentially look to Ladd as an experienced 2x champ leader who just wasn't a fit with the Isles.

Also this is "armchair GM", I appreciate the feedback, but how about making suggestions and sharing ideas instead of just criticizing? I literally have never used this tool or even heard of it before today. Someone said i'm overpaying for a majority of the signingings....like who? Someone else said I underpaid for Landeskog. - some actual ideas and feedback would make this way more fun! Thanks for checking it out though!

When I say overpay, I meant compensation (1st rounder) not salary. It isn't that much of stretch considering Bellows is in the deal and he is a young, former 1st round pick with upside. Rationale is that Carolina loses Hamilton bc they dont want to pay him $8-$9mm/yr and they give up a late first rounder for a proven, experienced puck moving D man and a high upside prospect..

Haha used overpay too many times. I meant they should overpay Hamilton if they’re going to just go out and overpay a replacement.

Misunderstood originally but I still don’t think Leddy is somebody they’d target if Hamilton ends up going somewhere else

VAN decline, they don't have the cap space.
