Oilers What is Seth Jones Trade Value Keith Hardball amp Secondary Scoring

Created by: David_McDavid
Team: 2021-22 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 9, 2021
Published: Jul. 9, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Assumptions:
- Holland has a hardball offer into Chicago
- Neal is untradeable.
- Holland has worked out a deal with SEA and can guide them on who they select in the Expansion Draft (rendering the protect list irrelevant and making trades before the draft feasible).
- Seth sees value in playing with his brother and thinks the Oilers can be contenders.
- Oilers are hot on Hyman, so I've plugged him in here as a Tier 1 LW UFA (could be a guy like Taylor Hall instead).

Key Question:
- Is this a feasible offer for Seth Jones in the mind of CLB fans?
- Does Schwartz (Western Canada kid) take a one year Tyson Barrie like prove it deal to play with 97 or 29?

Enjoy.

Trades
1.
EDM
  1. Keith, Duncan ($2,750,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Let's assume Holland is indeed playing hardball, and that he has removed a "piece from a previous offer", AND that Chicago has no other interested partners. The Oilers and Keith options are either a) take a deal or b) wait for a potential Keith buyout or for him to be selected by the Kraken and work a deal with them.
2.
EDM
  1. Jones, Seth
Additional Details:
Bear helps with RHD depth immediately.
I can't see Holland parting with Bouchard or Broberg (what with the risk of resigning Seth Jones) - Samorukov is the next best d prospect we can offer.
Marody is a bottom 6 NHLer potentiall.
Right to Tyson Barrie is effectively on par with the value of a mid-round pick, but provides CLB with the opportunity to negotiate a deal early.
CBJ
  1. Bear, Ethan
  2. Marody, Cooper
  3. Samorukov, Dmitri
Additional Details:
+ the rights to Tyson Barrie
3.
EDM
  1. 2021 4th round pick (NYR)
Additional Details:
Truculant player going to a team looking to add that.
4.

You're missing options for CHI and Keith. C.) He plays in Chicago or D.) He doesn't show up to camp in which the Hawks terminate his contract like STL did with Patrick Berglund.

You can keep Zack Kassian so you can't outbid us for Barclay Goodrow

I’m pretty sure the whole reason Chicago is moving Keith out is to make room for Jones. You getting Jones just ruins their whole plan lmao.

Is there a chance Chicago buys out Keith? I don’t think he wouldn’t show up to camp. He’s won 3 cups with them, you’d think there’s a mutual respect to do what’s best for each other.

No, not a chance. I agree that it's very unlikely he won't show up to camp. It's more likely he just plays in Chicago...which is what they want. The issue really has nothing to do with EDM. They either comply or don't. If Holland is indeed playing hardball...then Stan needs to go to Keith and be honest with him. EDM doesn't actually want Keith. Holland wants to use Keith as a pawn to unload their problems. Why do you want to go where you really aren't wanted. Just stay in CHI. Then Keith needs to decide what he wants. Is he willing to stay in CHI where he's actually wanted. Or is it time to move on. That will be up to him.

Is this a feasible offer for Seth Jones in the mind of CLB fans?
I have an opinion, but I'm not a Blue Jackets fan.

Does Schwartz (Western Canada kid) take a one year Tyson Barrie like prove it deal to play with 97 or 29?
He might. It depends on what his options are and whether the Oilers are interested in signing another another high-profile player to a show me contract. He could be a great fit playing beside McDavid, or he could continue to struggle.

    A few other thoughts.

    1. Although I think you have hit the salary range at which Keith may make sense for the Oilers, I seriously doubt the Blackhawks agree to that trade. Duncan Keith still plays a big role in Chicago, and although his stats are terrible, he has perceived value in the Windy City. Stan Bowman will not want to be perceived to have been fleeced by Ken Holland. Frankly, I doubt Holland would want to be perceived to have fleeced Bowman.
    2. Adding Schwatz, Hyman, Goodrow, Saad and Perry will make Edmonton a heavier team. That is something they probably need to do in order to improve their chances of success in the playoffs.
    3. Linked to my second point, the Kassian trade is simply a cap dump, although the Oilers will likely feel his loss in ways that might surprise many fans.
    4. I'd rather see Tippett play McLeod at 4C, than see Holland bring in Glendening. IMO, in comparison to Caleb Jones playing 2LW, there is a much better chance of McLeod at 4C consistently making positive contributions on the ice.
    5. The irony of Perry playing for the Oilers would make for a huge story, I am certain of that.
    6. Ullmark is probably going to cost >$3M and seek more than a 2-year deal.
    7. I believe RNH is now considered a "versatile, complimentary LW", rather than a "cerebral C". His new contract suggests to me that Holland will bring in one more top-6 forward, unless he is presented with a can't lose opportunity (like the Blues gifting the Oilers Tarasenko, some kind of favorable trade for a guy like Sam Reinhart, or some high-end UFA RW begging Ken Holland for a team-friendly deal). Barring those absurd long-shots, I don't see both Schwartz and Hayman in Edmonton next season.
    8. I think we can agree that it is far more likely that Caleb Jones will be moved out of Edmonton rather than his older brother being moved to Edmonton.

Huge overpay for Hyman. If that's the price, no thanks!
