So here's my two cents: DET doesn't have to trade him at all, if TOR wants him they will have to overpay similar to how WSH overpaid for Mantha

WSH had a cap dump in that trade it wasn't a overpay

Is Detroit shopping Bert? Are they forced to take any deal? How do we know Toronto is the only interested party? A lot of assumptions there OP.

youre rebuilding and have no reason to hang onto a 26 year old with injury problems, by the time the wings are competitive he will be 30+ makes no sense to not trade him now

That cap dump is only worth about a second for Detroit. Washington paid a 1st and Vrana for Mantha. Overpay.

You’re not getting Bertuzzi from Steve Yzerman with this offer

Vrana is better than Mantha and younger. Panik was arguably a cap dump for salary reasons but he is still a useful bottom 6 player. It was not like a Lucic type cap dump where he is negative value

The thing with bertuzzi and why I agree with the title is that there basing off the Mantha trade when mantha trade had a cap dump in it. Mantha had term iirc (could be wrong don't shoot) and also didn't come off a injury.

Typically successful teams have veterans to aid in the development of their prospects.

Detroit is coming out of the rebuild after next season and will absolutely need Bert.

Apparently he isn't bad enough for you to keep him off your top line...

He hasn’t signed yet and is an RFA so he could potentially have term. Some could also say Mo was playing dog crap and gave very little effort but that didn’t kill is value. By all accounts Bertuzzi is recovery just fine and a trade like this only goes through if it’s signed off on the receiving teams doctors so again somewhat invalid.

Toronto will probably be dumping cap like Kerfoot, mikheyev or Engvall in the trade I would expect. Not as big of a dump as panik in my opinion but still adds a bit of negative value.

Because no player has one their first cup after 30 right? Come you are going to have to do better than that, any 5th grader can tear that argument apart.

Now you're going to want to reply right away but I wouldn't put some thought into before responding because so far all you have done is make it look like you have no idea what you are talking about.

Maybe you aren’t but I’m sure yzerman is.

I think he’s smart enough to weigh the two sides.

-keep him and roll the dice on his recovery to have a 30yr old player when this team is ready to start contending.

Move him pick up a 1st and 2nd with a solid prospect and open up cap space to take on a cap dump (lots of teams will be looking) and pick up another 1st and maybe even more.

I think it all really depends on how much interest he gets.

I’m sure Yzerman is savvy enough to trade anyone for the right price but this literally goes against OP. Every player can be traded (eg Gretzky). Yzerman isn’t going to settle on trading him and they’ve been tracking his progress. Any team acquiring him would be privy to that info also so again moot.

What a tired argument. “Because there was one bad trade all trades must be bad. “

Does that mean the leafs could trade Holl for Larkin? I mean larsson or Hall dictates that we can…

If you look through trades that is around the value of bertuzzi it's not far off some trades that has been today. Like kapanen got a 15 OVR and a prospect. Do I think someone like kerfoot will get that. Hell no. Do I think kerfoot is better than kapanen maybe if not the same value. Looking at multiple trades > one trade

I’m glad yzerman has a crystal ball but I’m sure the other 31 GM’s don’t really care.

1st, 2nd and an A-/B+ Prospect is pretty fair value for a 40-50 point guy.

Reasonable. What people won't agree on is what/who is a b+ prospect.

How is basing a decision on periodic medical assessments a “crystal ball”? Where’s this A-/B+ prospect? Yzerman has routinely shown to be a savvy trader so this isn’t new.

Agreed, I’m not saying yzerman should be doing backflips and packing Tyler’s bags, but this is a fair offer.

Would be nice to see some of the users on here take it for what it’s worth and hen give “their opinion” on whether they like the deal than have 50 people on here who think they are literally Steve Yzerman.
