Before a wings fan say it. Won't get you bert

The marner one. I like getting Reinhart. Don't see them trading next year pick with Wright being there. Since no one want to be taken by buffalo in 2021 leafs I mean... Don't shoot

It can be a top 3 protected pick.

They're going to lose Reinhart since he doesn't want to be back. They already have Dahlin, so why take Power? And next year's pick is top 3 protected.

Marner is a top 5 right winger in the league.

It's also buffalo but I don't think 2 1st and Sam is it. Take out the 22 one and leafs can do whatever they want with the 21st. Trade down and get assets or use it

I don’t get how Kerfoot is worth a 2nd but bertuzzi, who has proven to be a better player by a decent margin, is only worth two 2nds? The gap between them is much bigger

This all looked pretty good until I saw that Marner deal. Honestly just doesn't make sense for either side. The Sabres give up the first overall pick for no reason and the Leafs downgrade from Marner.

I'd probably look to get some retention on that Tarasenko deal then give Hall near 7 with some term since I think that's what he'll demand.

The 4th line is also very garbage, not to mention this lineup has MAYBE 2 penalty killers up front.

The trades are decent (except the Buffalo one), but the rest is pretty shocking

Love the headline of this thread. Absolutely hate this quote. There such a thing as too many elite defensemen?

Bertuzzi is RFA and will get north of 4 million on his next contract most likely. Kerfoot is signed for two more years at 3.5 so while he is a lesser player he still has value.

Bertuzzi's career high is 48 points, and Kerfoot's is 43 points, so they are not that far apart.

Toronto fans just because Elliot Friedman says the Leafs were interested in Bertuzzi does not mean we will give him to division rival.

Your arrogance today with some of the Bertuzzi trades and the low balling of the Wings is a prime example of why so many hockey fans hope that the Maple Leafs never win a cup again.

Incredibly bad trade for sabres, doesn’t do a whole lot for the leafs either. I mean yeah maybe those firsts are good trade assets but Toronto doesn’t need the draft capital.

4th line would be Simmonds Brooks spezza

Yea. There can only be one Hedman on Tampa. Sergachev and McDonagh are complimentary players but Hedman is the top dog.

Guys like Dahlin, Makar and Power need their own team to truly grow and be dominant. They need the ice time and power play time to excel. Having two of them on the same team will limit them.

Not a bad point. But since Eichel is probably out this year, I could see them picking Beniers or Eklund if that's the case.

Really? I mean I know it's been a tricky year for scouting but the guy often touted as going 1st overall isn't projected to be elite? Why is he touted as going 1st overall? Where are the elite defensemen in this draft?

Leafs could use a guy like Power who will be on a cheap contract and a third line center who can score and make plays. The added cap space is also a big reason for the trade making sense.

Without the circumstances of the Expansion, I would be pretty happy with that STL deal, but we are hard-pressed to being able to protect Dunn which means we are hard-pressed to be able to protect Rielly. Good value, but can’t really happen.

Two 2nd's not good enough for Bert. Wings would want a similar package to what they got for Mantha. At least a 1st + 2nd

Detroit says Hell No Tyler Bertuzzi > > > > > > > Toronto's 2021 2nd round pick+Toronto's 2022 2nd round pick. Your lowball offers on Bertuzzi isn't helping your case here. Yzerman holds all the cards with Bertuzzi not Dubas. if Toronto doesn't want to give us what we wants. I can guarantee you 15 other teams will.

He's being highly touted because a lot of non-american prospects didn't play many games and if they did, it was overseas thus being hard to see them as well as it being hard to get good video of them.

I'm not sure I'm allowed to put links in a thread, but try draft projectionsclicking this, there is a guy who has been working on models like this where he tries to project how prospects would develop throughout their NHL careers. He gives them a % chance of playing in the NHL and % chance of becoming a star.

Power has a 97% of being an NHLer (200+ games) but only a 17% chance at being a star. And from watching him play at Michigan a bit, I'd say its fairly accurate. His size and skating ability will make him have a long NHL career, but his skill and decision making is average at best. He'll be a very good player, but not one I would pick with the first overall pick.

And to answer the question about the elite defencemen, I'd say Clarke has a better chance at becoming a legitimate top pairing guy

Just check it out and play around with it a bit, I find it really interesting because he has been pretty spot on with his predictions in the past!

@adamorimoli61 Thank you! This is super helpful and really interesting. Haven't heard draft projections, but this really turns a lot of draft lists on their heels haha. I also appreciate the detailed response.
