Alrighty lets talk, there has been tons of controversy with Burtuzzi trades on here, ranging from Wings fans asking For Sandin Robertson and a first, to leaf fans asking for Mikheyev and stuff lmao. But, i think we can all agree... i hope, that Burtuzzi wont get Robertson or Sandin, unless its a 1 for 1 but i dont think the leafs do that. SOOOO, i think this trade is extremely fair. This is essentially the Kapanen trade, so i undertsnad why wings fans would like a Second or something to go with it, but the leafs cant afford that. I understand that the Wings fans dont care what we can or cant do because at the end of the day, we are trading for him. But, lets have a chat. Please try to keep it clean in the comments, lets have a chill talk.

See yall down there ;)

Do you have trouble understanding?

Detroit needs a RD that is waiver exempt.
We need him on the team next season.

Tuomisto will not be on the team next season.

Detroit is not looking for a 3rd pair RD.
Detroit is looking for a prospect that is good enough to do injury call-ups.
Detroit does not currently have such a player.

Have I put it in simple enough terms for you to understand?

Detroit's waiver exempt prospect is Seider.

I never said Tuomisto would be on the team next year, meant that he could possibly turn pro before 2024.

Sorry I triggered you, calm down.

Those two are really good but Lindstrom is a third pairing guy probably for his career, if one gets injured or decides to move on from Detroit then there is no one to fill that hole. It's like say you have Reilly, muzzin and Dermot, why do you need Sandin?

Muzzin is aging, and Rielly we cant afford, Plus who cares if we have Dermott or not hes a depth guy, u dont trade Sandin because u have Dermott. Also Sandin is good, Really young and promising.

Yeah I was just making a point. I think Sandin is Toronto's top D prospect so I don't think they will move him.

Detroit have 9 LD prospects, 6 of which were picked in the top 3 rounds, 2 of which are very close to making the team.

LD is the least of their needs. Litterally all other positions are in much greater need for good prospects than LD.

They have a lot of LD prospects, but none that project as higher than a 2nd pair guy (probably the peak for Wallinder/Viro/McIssac if all turns out well), and the majority of which would be lucky to sniff the 3rd pair, especially given how many of them there are. Sandin or one of Edvinsson/Hughes gets them that 1LD long term partner for Seider that they need. The other needs are top 6 C/LW, and Robertson/Amirov are LWs, as is Eklund (if McTavish isn't gone by 6 he's an option too but I think Columbus takes him at 5, assuming Beniers is gone at 2). Seems like through this trade and 6th overall they should aim to bring in a top 6 LW and a 1LD, and they can definitely do that. Asking for Dermott in the case where they acquire Amirov is more of a failsafe, as he can log NHL minutes so that the prospects that are close can ease in and not be forced too high in the depth chart too quickly (the Wings obviously wouldn't care about Dermott's development and probably flip him for a pick at the 22-23 deadline if he's worth anything by then).

Fair, but if thats the case, the leafs just dont do it.

This entirely. I really don't think Toronto should be focusing on trying to pry Bertuzzi from Detroit in the first place. They should focus on figuring out why Matthews and Marner aren't performing as well in the playoffs.
