In one where they get a d man in his prime who two seasons ago got 72 points and Norris votes.

He's also has 1 year left and there isn't a good chance he resigns with a rebuilding team

Also Devils decline

Yzerman isn't giving up that for Rielly, even if Rielly came with an extension. Besides 2 years ago in NHL terms is forever
Tyler will require a bigger contract
Cbj also declines Bemstrom is part of their lo Ger term rebuild plan.

Rhetorical questions are lost on the users here…

Redwings would have no interest in trading Bertuzzi straight up for Reilly let alone with a first… even if he walked on water and had a virgin mother.

Rielly put up 24 more points than Bertuzzi as a defenceman. Plus he's not coming back from a back injury.

Some people on this site speak of Bertuzzi like he's a top 10 player in the league lol. It's crazy. He's not even top 100.

Nothing to do with Bertuzzi, everything to do with a tanking team renting a Dman for one season. You would be better off flipping Reilly for futures and adding that to a package for Bertuzzi.

It's mismanagement of assets to trade him for a rental is all. If he had 3 more years or an extension then you could argue it. Detroit would be better trading him for dunn who isn't as good as Reilly but is an rfa and under team control.

Yzerman doesn't want to tank, and Detroit needs an LD. Obviously if they are going to give up assets for him then they will look to keep him. This trade only works if Rielly extends first.

Why not wait till next year? Or trade for his rights just before FA? It’s always bothered me to see people trading something they don’t own. The nhl doesn’t deal in human trafficking… the contract is traded which expires next season.

It's a comment section, there's no such thing as "rhetorical questions" expect faux outrage to be commented on.

Also, Detroit can keep Bertuzzi and his back. Even when it was healthy it couldn't carry him to 50 points.

We need a scorecard to keep track of all the Byron to Ottawa, Hickey to Ottawa, Komarov to Ottawa, Engvall to Ottawa, Mikheyev to Ottawa, Matheson to Ottawa, Johnson to Ottawa, DeHaan to Ottawa, Monahan to Ottawa. If your player is injured, declining, both, or is just in the way, trade him to Ottawa, because that’ll make your ACGM thread numbers work, lol.

Precisely my point. There's no way Detroit would trade Bert AND a first for a guy who would likely walk in a year. That'd be Chiarelli level asset management
