The New Blues

Created by: PresidentJay
Team: 2021-22 St. Louis Blues
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 10, 2021
Published: Jul. 10, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The Tarasenko trade: The OIlers get a question mark that can play next to McDavid and get out of the Neal contract without a buyout. The Blues get cap space, a bottom forward, and a top prospect.
The Capitals deal: The Caps save cap space which they need for Ovy and they get younger with Dunn. The Blues add guys who can hit and clear out the front of the net for Binnington.
The Lighting deal: I have no clue if the Blues would need to add a pick. The Lightning save on the cap, add a backup for Vas.
Expansion Draft: Faulk played much better last season but his cap hit and the length of it can be better spend making the team tougher. Francis has history with Faulk and perhaps sees him as the face of the franchise. The Blues give them Kostin because he has no future on this team and the Kraken can let him play in Russia for another year.
Free Agent Signings: The Blues need a backup that can challenge Binnington a bit. Glendening is great on the face-off which improves the penalty kill. Paquette and Sutter are going to bring grit.

As an Oilers fan it would be hard to pass but I think it is a pass. Holloway has pretty good potential to be a difference maker or at the very least a strong complement player for years, VT MAY be a good bet for 2 years and that's if he doesn't get injured again and an still shoot like he use too.

Don’t think Oilers do that, but would be happy with it if they did.

We don't need a player like Neal, he's actively looked at for a buyout. Doesn't make sense to pick up a 6 million 4th liner.

Don't understand why were including anything if we are losing Faulk. Be better to just let them take whatever they want at that point

Wow, okay. We're not paying to give away Faulk, or doing it for free, either. The Oilers aren't trading Holloway. The Caps deal is a no-chancer. We're not dealing HUsso to sign Mrazek for 3x as much. No idea why we'd sign Sutter or Paquette.

I do like the Glendening idea, though.

No we don't need Neal, but look at Holloway's stats. That's what were getting for taking on Neal's contract. They could buy him out and sign someone with the savings. Acquiring a top prospect makes sense to me. With the history of Faulk and Francis this could be the best chance to move his contract. The reason you do that is for future seasons. How are you going to pay Thomas and Kyrou if they develop into stars? Maybe they let Paryko walk but I'd rather keep him but he's going to need a raise.

No idea why we'd sign Sutter or Paquette? Because they are physical. The Blues need to be more aggressive. Binnington needs a more players in front of him that hit the opposing team. Why wouldn't we want a better backup? Binnington didn't have a single shutout last season. That's really bad. Look at goalies that started as many game as he did, they all had multiple shutouts. What do you think is wrong with the Caps deal? I don't know how much they like Schultz so I could be way off but I'm assuming they want to get cap space.
