No way OTT gives up a 2nd and a good prospect for Schmidt. If a team is interested and has the cap room I think recouping the 3rd rounder they paid for him will be about what the Canucks can hope for.

That's overly pessimistic. He's worth more than a 3rd, cash will be flowing a bit more than last year. I think you're right though, Schmidt isn't a good fit with Ottawa.

Not saying it's impossible for them to get more than a 3rd from an interested team, but this deal is basically a 1st and 2nd. I don't see any team giving that up.

Fair enough.The deal is entirely futures so I would take less for sure
