Description
Going to try to do a 3 part/3 year plan for the Oilers, hopefully taking advantage of this years cap while setting up the next few years with a competitive team. The idea is as long as the team is consistently competing in the playoffs McDavid, Draisaitl and company resign opposed to requesting trades or walking as FA. Taking some liberties here, Nurse and a few others sign team friendly deals to keep the band together, similar to Nuge (more of a home town discount but same idea). I'll post links to other years in each description, I'll try to explain trades and signings as a go, this way I'll avoid repeating my self as much as possible.

Firsts things first - Neal is bought out. Simple, 95% chance he is, so let's get that out of the way.

Second - Keith trade, hearing a lot of mixed rumours on this one. I'm just mixing it up a bit here.

Third - Sign Hyman, there was suggestion Holland should trade for signings rights but that doesn't make sense to me. He knows what he wants, why waste the pick just to have to protect him if he even signs before free agency. I believe this contract will be a mistake on the back have of the contract but I'm not sure Holland cares to much about 4-5 years, he's hoping to get a cup or two before then. The idea is Hyman is to McDavid as Rust was to Crosby.

Fourth - Oilers nab a righty that's good in the dot. I think Ryan is the better option but I feel like this signing is more likely. I heard the idea is the Oilers want a 3C and have McLeod play 4C but I feel like it's more likely LG plays 4C minutes and RM plays 3C mins.

Fifth - it's about time to let the draftys and young players try and make the club. The best teams develop from within. There's a few guys who could nab a spot. Benson, Marody, McLeod, Bouchard, Somurakov, Broberg are all prime candidates. Obviously some more then others.

Sixth - from what it's sounds like Holland is content with his goaltending going into this season. I'm not personally but what can you do. I think if Cossa is available they nab him. I think they want to see what they have in Skinner and Konovalov as well. Maybe take a swing on Keumper next FA if they don't make a trade during the season.

Seventh - I could see the Oilers also signing Saad or Tatar in place of Hyman or 2 out of the 3. If you subtract 1 of any of them they are under the cap. I just signed all 3 to give an idea for what they could fetch in free agency. Also, refer to Montreal when it comes to having a few second line players on the third line, I think EDM could do the same with their cap space this offseason. I would like to add that I've seen people signing them for much cheaper and shorter term but I don't believe that crap for a second. They could easily fetch a decent contract even if it has to be from a non contending team so in order to stay competitive with possible FA offers I gave them a little more.

Eighth - I signed Keokeo and Kulikov to cheap contracts, I wouldn't be surprised if Holland signs a few depth defenders probably one or both of these guys for depth.

In summary I feel like this is pretty close to what I think will happen this offseason. I think Holland will get as close to the cap as possible. I think he will have a few tricks up his sleeve. Sign a bigger FA defenceman or trade for a top 6 winger. I also think Klefbom will be ready next season so maybe he leaves a bit more cap for him or he's doesn't come back until the playoffs so they don't need the space (see TB and Kuch). But I'm not about to try and figure that out. Like I said above I will make a year 2 and a year 3 connected to this and see if it works out in the end. Enjoy!

1.
EDM
  1. Keith, Duncan ($2,769,231 retained)
Additional Details:
Oilers attain Keith at 50% retained. CHI retains 30%. Third party teams retains remaining 20%. 20% works out to about 1.1 mil. Shouldn't cost more then a late pick. Rumours are CHI wants Bear and doesn't want to retain. EDM wants CHI to retain and take a contract back. Keith is in the driver's seat hear more or less. If you don't know the rumours you can look them up. I added the possible 3rd party retention because it seems trending and fun. Why not. I think the deal will be close enough to with EDM inccurring a possible 1 more in cap regardless. CHI gets Jones, to entice Jones. Plus a midlate pick for the retention plus Turris contract.
CHI
  1. Jones, Caleb
  2. Turris, Kyle
  3. 2022 3rd round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
I debated a 4th pick here.
2.
EDM
20% retention on Keith contract. Could be a number of teams with the cap space.
    NJD
    1. 2023 4th round pick (EDM)
    3.
    EDM
    SEA
    1. Lagesson, William
    Additional Details:
I think there's a good chance with Jones gone Seattle will have no choice but to pick the only other younger cheap D available. But I also think either Benson or Marody could get picked as well.

I think the Hawks accept. Not because they think it's it's good trade, but its close enough and Keith wants to be close to his kids. It's odd because they aren't in Edmonton, but thats a different point entirely.

I think a little has to do with EDM having. McDavid and company and being closer to being a competitive team more or less. I guess the plane ride is less then an hour from EDM to where is son is close too.. it think that's what I read.

I hear ya. To me, once it's officially a plane trip is a plane trip...then 1 hr vs 4 hrs isn't really that big of a deal to serve as the basis for requesting a trade. EDM might be a bit closer to being ready, but not that much closer. CHI did beat EDM in the "bubble round".

I don't disagree but that's officially two post seasons ago now. I think it's safe to say EDM is moving towards an elongated window for being competitive with McDavid and what not. I also think there might be some hard feelings from this previous offseason in CHI, it seemed like once Crawford got traded the core was pretty pissed. I think Chicago has a good mix of youth and vets but Keith might just want a change of scenery too

Saad and Tatar signed at 6m as 3rd liners is daaaaamn expensive. And they got a pretty good player in Archibald as a serviceavle 3-4 liner.
    Sign just obe of them.

I doubt NJ accepts only a 4th for retaining a boatload of cap for two years. They want at least a 2nd or a 3rd and a 4th.

To bad to lose Lagesson, but someone will get pickez, and I actually guess its between Jones, Lagesson or Benson. Just chose your fate.

Other than that, good idea. If bot Hyman, I wouldve tried Schwartz from St Louis.

I don't necessarily think they would be 3rd liners, but could play up and down the line up if needed. I just the both players will get around 6 mil. I think even with Nuge signed as a top 6 LW they should sign at least two more top 6 wingers for depth, injury, chemistry.

It's only 1 mil. Is Neals almost 6 mil cap hit would only cost a first to dump for 2 years, I can't see 1 mil costing more then a mid to late pick.

I think Jones will be traded but yea, I agree it's one of those players.

I agree JS would be another good option. They need a PF to play on that line, JP could develop into but then they need a sniper.

Idk. It's only 1mil. If 6 mil costs a first for 2 years I can't see 1 mil costing to much tbh
