Team: 2021-22 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 10, 2021
Published: Jul. 10, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is just me messing around, I know Strome is an unlikely add in to the Keith trade but that is the price I would be charging for the Oilers to take all of Keith's money. I left 2mil in cap space so that if Strome is not included then we can use our imaginations to think about what sort of top 6 winger could be brought in for 5mil if Strome were not involved.

Let's see. A 38 year old who is in decline and who has stated he wants to leave to be closer to family and will only waive for two or three destinations. His value is less than you see and Chicago will be forced to retain in a flat cap world. The only option may be Seattle at this point.

Read the description.

A legend of your franchise has asked for a trade to one of two places. We dont want him that bad. If there is a deal you either eat half his salary or give us something to make it worth our while.

You both are assuming we have to trade Keith, it's entirely plausible that we don't trade him if no deals work out. Stop power-tripping over the illusion that you are doing Chicago a favor by trading for Keith, we never wanted to trade him except for his request, and we are happy keeping him. You aren't getting a buy Keith get one Strome free deal here.

You dont haaaave to trade him but its in your best interest.

He's said he is done in Chicago, he wants to be closer to his son in western canada, if he's still property of the Blackhawks next season he will retire. That will outright **** your cap situation. You can buy him out to avoid that but theres still no cap relief to doing so. So you can trade him to western Canada or you can suffer. He's also a legend of your franchise and your team is god damn terrible right now so there is no harm in doing him a favour and honoring his wishes and getting some positive press. Especially considering the hawks are an organization that protect and promote sexual predators and thats all coming to light so maybe some positive headlines will help.

End of story he wants to play for us, we dont need him, Chicago needs to get rid of him or take a pounding from the cap recapture penalty. I'm not the GM but if I were taking Keith's whole contract I'd need Strome to save your asses.

What can I say except you are wrong... him retiring (not that he would) won’t do anything to our cap situation and Chicago was not looking to move him before he asked for a trade. You’re entire argument as to why you should be allowed to steal strome is based on some cap doomsday that doesn’t exist.

(Note: Sexual assault coverups aside, I doubt trading the best D in franchise history, and absolutely blundering it, is going to get the org positive press)
