I don’t think Schwartz is the play.
I think we should run something like this:
Robertson - Matthews - Marner
Tavares - Kerfoot - Nylander
Goodrow - 3C (preferably Haula) - Mikheyev
Simmonds - Brooks - Spezza
Rielly - Brodie
Muzzin - Dermott
Sandin - Liljegren
Campbell
Vanecek
(Extras: Galch, Semyonov, Hutton, Hutchinson)
We saw what a small guy with an amazing shot and great work ethic can do. I’m not saying Robertson is as good as Caufield but they are pretty similar players IMO. Set him up for success with Matthews and Marner. If he doesn’t work out we do some shuffling and Galch steps in.
The Leafs want to move Tavares to the wing so we try that, and give Kerfoot a bigger role because he proved he can do it in the playoffs. If it doesn’t work too well we can switch them back around with Kerfoot at LW and Tavares at C.
The third line is solid at both ends, nothing else to it than that.
And the 4th line can be an energy line like they have been.
Rielly and Brodie works, so roll with it.
Dermott’s defensive numbers are better than most would expect, I think he can handle it.
Keefe trusts his young guys, and I do too. They’re never gonna grow and learn if we don’t play them.
Campbell earned to be a starter.
Vanecek is a fairly cheap backup option that we can grab from Seattle (assuming WSH protects Samsonov) Any other cheap goalie can be signed by moving 2-3 of our scratched players down to the minors.
