eh I don't know tbh it depends what direction they decide to go in which seems really up in the air rn. If Ekholm stays in Nashville Boston trades for someone like Dunn or gets someone in FA.

Wagner makes more money and gets less points than Pierre Engvall who the Leafs are likely trying to move. You can get a guy in free agency for league minimum to do the things Chris Wagner brings to the table

Preds already said they are not moving him. They are going 8-1 in the expansion draft and likely protecting 5 d men.

Dunn prob out too. Boston can’t do that before the X draft and afterwards is unlikely to be available. Same with Graves, another popular expansion draft caualty trade target. Maybe Seattle is stocked with D after the draft and trade one for JD. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Most likely it will be free agency, and that is not very deep.

Considering the X draft is loaded with D and little O they’d be wise to stock up and use the excess as trade bait. Depends on side deals though.

Except without Ekholm you are now running out the same defense as last year which was exposed and came up woefully short in the playoffs
Moore is on IR and therefore 2.75 more on cap.
Rask is on LTIR which comes off the cap but you will have to cover half the 3M if he comes back half way through the year.
Now put a second goalie on the roster with Swayman and put that amount against the cap.
Does not leave you much cap room and really you need 2 top 4 D added to this team to be serious Cup contenders.

there are other options and players in FA and trades. Start off with Vladar in net with Swayman and if it goes wrong trade for a veteran guy on a cheap contract or maybe sign one in advance like lunquist.
