Potentially reasonable

Created by: nmarc13
Team: 2021-22 New Jersey Devils
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 11, 2021
Published: Jul. 11, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Trade Reasonings
1. Butcher goes to a team that desperately needs a powerplay qb, which is what he does best
2. Tampa dumps Palat, who is a serviceable player and also gets a hometown kid who grew up a devils fan (and is a pretty good player himself), but we give up a good player in kuokkanen
3. Expansion draft
4. Don't really think this is enough but david poile is a senile old man and has a history of some brutal trades/contracts
5. Cap dump
6. Also a cap dump
7. I think hanifin could use a change of scenery and wood is probably a decent price point

I understand what you're saying, and I did say he was a good player. But he makes a lot of money, so what is your idea of fixing your cap problem?

TB and NSH deals are brutal for Devils.
Giving up too much for two rentals.

Calgary deal is good for us, but Flames might not like it.

Enough of the 20 team list he has wants him where he gets a 2+ not dumped as fodder St.louis or Edmonton would be very interested.. protect 4NMC's Point Cirelli Sergechev Cernak Foote I see a lot think Gourde is the pick then go with the kids.

It just doesn't make sense to give up assets to fill a temporary void when we could acquire players to fill those holes via cap dumps or free agency. Also with him being a UFA at the end of the season, he is purely a rental right now.

The problem is at the end of next season Butcher is a UFA so unless sign him then trade him his return isn't going to be very good. Especially from a rebuilding team like Detroit.

If he had term and with that cap hit. I'd like him enough to give up Vegas 3rd as long as it takes place after the expansion draft.

Not the move yzerman is going to make. Butcher isn't that good, well pass on this, rather have the pick and not the cap hit, or roster player

He was healthy scratch because of Ty Smith, not because of his own play.
He'd still likely be a pp qb on a lot of teams.
But for 1-year, I'd agree, a rebuilding team should not invest much in him unless he re-signs.

I think that would get it done.

I'll pass, not a fan of his game, not an yzerman type of move. He's better somewhere else, no go from wings

Not trying to sell you on him...don't think Wings are fit either.
He either stays in NJD until trade deadline, or goes in swap for Gostisbehere-type player (moving salary and changing scenery)

I agree with you, I don't think he's a fit in det either, he has a place in the nhl, just not with the wings.

Detroit declines, not paying for rentals.

Since Yzerman became GM here he has not even once paid any assets for

any player over 24 years of age.

Richard Panik
Sam Gagne
Kyle Brodziak
Alex Biega

(Not blockbuster deals nor centerpieces in trades)

And Will Butcher is only 26 years old.

Richard Panik (part of Mantha trade)
Sam Gagne (Athanasiou, Kuffner)
Kyle Brodziak (Mike Green)
Alex Biega (David Pope)

None were main part of trades, but they all were over 24 years old.
