Pelech is very underrated. If you are talking pure defense. He’s one of the league’s better. But let’s not go overboard. He’s # 2/3 defenseman, closer to 3.

He’s a very solid guy that anyone would be happy to have. But he’s not a #1 and not a top 10-15.

Duncan Keith was just traded for a 3rd rd pick, Leddy was on pace for 45 points this season and only had 1 year left. Does it bother you that there is interest in Leddy?

Wahlstrom was injured in round 1 and wasn’t healthy until the Tampa series. .5 PPG as a 20 year old on a Trotz team is impressive. He was on pace for 22 goals playing on the 3rd line with pageau. Isn’t it common sense that he’ll score more goals playing with barzal with increased ice time?

I guess we'll find out next year. So keep your great spects and we'll keep Pelech, Walhstrom and Dobson...

By the way if Duncan at 37 yr old with 2 years left on deal paying him $5.5M can get traded for a good young D guy and a 3rd rounder. I'm sure we can get something back.

Pelech ranked 8th among all Dman in wins above replacement this season and ranked top 10 in many offensive and defensive metrics. He’s a #1, there’s nothing you can say to prove otherwise.

Ice time is a terrible way to evaluate a player. Devon Toews had a #1 D impact while playing 2nd pairing minutes for the isles

And Ondrej Kase’s metrics put him as one of the best in the league when he was with Ducks…he wasn’t.

When kase was healthy he was one of the better wingers in the league at even strength.

It’s not misleading , he put up points at a high rate and he elite at driving play both offensively and defensively. Injuries ruined his career

Leddy is the isles #3 and he averaged 30 sec more ice time because he plays on PP1. Pelech was top 10 among all D in quality of competition faced, Leddy is a bit sheltered at 5v5. That’s why ice time is a terrible argument, pelech has one of the toughest assignments in the league and he kills it against elite competition.

Just because he’s your #3 does not mean he is a #3. Not all depth charts are created equal. Lauzon and Grizz played 1st pair for Boston. Lauzon is 5 and Grizz is a 4. Somebody played #1 for Detroit, he isn’t a 1.

Go look at true #1s.

Guys like. Petro, Hedman, Josi, Weber, Chychrun, etc. etc. They don’t play less minutes than mediocre d men.

Claiming Pelech to be top 10-15 is absurd. There are 32 teams in the league. You are saying he’s better than 2/3 of the leagues top guy and better than high end guys playing behind that guy. There are teams that have 2 or 3 top end guys. He’s not even your top guy. You can argue that all you want. 32 GMs won’t agree with you.

Pelech is the Isles best defenseman - you can't come up with a logical argument, you just keep using ice time lol. Pelech ranks in the top 10 for most offensive and defenseman metrics , which is why he's a #1 and a top 20 D in the league. I can guarantee GM's like Joe sakic and Bill Zito know that pelech is a top 20 D, I don't care what GM's like Benning, Holland, Bowman, Bergevin think.

That doesn't mean he had the same offensive impact as Kane. Tyson Barrie top 5 among all D in points this season but he wasn't even top 20 in overall offensive impact.

lol man you're just grasping at straws here. Pelech was the main offensive driver of the pair, Pulock is great but he wasn't better than Pelech during the regular season and playoffs.

Happy to say that this is the first time I agree with Isles777. Momentous occasion. I would not go so far as to call the offer trash but I agree that there is no way the Islanders trade Pelech. I did not realize until the playoffs just how good he is. My son said the same thing and he is a fan of neither team. Pelech, McAvoy and Barzal were hands down the best players on the ice in that series. You just don't trade players like that because they sustain teams for years. Pelech is going to get paid and he will deserve every penny and probably more. The Isles were the better team this year but hopefully we can make another run and maybe see you guys in the playoffs again next year and get our revenge! I see there are 39 posts to go on this ACGM and I know who you are dealing with so the rest can wait until tomorrow!
