Giving up a 3rd + Caleb Jones for Keith with no retention is just horrible. Feel bad for Edmonton fans.

I have a feeling this may be one of those trades that end up working out for both teams. But as of right now, Blackhawks are walking away like bandits.

When they say the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, they’re right. At least for Oilers GM’s of course.

Unless Edmonton goes far in the playoffs and meets those conditions then this really isn’t a good move for the Oilers.

Everybody wins!

Keith goes to the Pacific division.

Chicago get capspace and a Jones brother for a Seth Jones move.

Edmonton doesn’t really give out anything and get leadership and a defensive mentor.

The Kraken lose a bit of opportunity on both Jones and Keith, but can always pick Giordano instead. Who do they pick in Chicago and Edmonton now?!?

Edmonton was going to lose Jones to Seattle anyway and a 3rd has a 10% chance of playing in the NHL someday...

Stop ripping off your shirt please.

Edmonton loses. This trade hurts their FA options as now they got less space to work with. If his cap hit was for 1 year great but for 2 yikes as they got some big names to resign soon (Nurse and Bear among them) and with Klefbom coming off LTIR along with Koskinen and maybe a neal buyout that space disappears fast

Good luck to Edmonton is all I can say cause veteran presence is great but not at over 5mill. Luckily for them their division is pretty weak and there is no way they miss the playoffs.

Have you ever been to Edmonton?

FA options😂 what FA options!?!? 🤣

They got an all of famer defencemen who actually want to go there. Better than chasing and overpaying for FA that want nothing to do with EDM.

Couple things.

1) Unless Keith has a mini career renassisance in Edmonton, I don't believe this is a good move. A 38-40 year old top four defenseman doesn't exactly set up the Oilers for a long serious run in the playoffs if they can break through. Chicago wins just by virtue of getting 5 million off of the cap and getting decent assets for someone who is well not worth them.
2) I think this trade indicates that the Blackhawks want to make a move to acquire Seth Jones. They definitely can afford him now since they just cleared out at least 5.4 million and they can definitely pay for the outrageous salary he's going to demand on his next contract. (Or perhaps I'm looking a bit too much into it because C. Jones was the only viable return)
