yep, someones gonna take a crack at him.

Especially when you consider he was getting 30 points on the 4th line. Put him top 6 probs 50 point guy

I think you might be overselling TJ a bit, but I think he's still capable of 30-40 points over a 82 game season if you have him at center.

Lets say Edmonton trades for him and plays him with Mcdavid you dont think he can get 50 points. Or if Vegas traded for him and put him between Stone and Paccoretty. I think its not hard to see him getting 50 points in a bigger role

Now you're paying a 38 year old "all of famer" washed up defenceman 5.5M for the next 2 years. Keith as a FA wouldn't be getting anywhere close to 5.5M

Still a better defence than without him.
Quoting: DongLord23
The big thing isn't even the 3rd+Jones. It's Keith's contract. Even taking Keith for free is a bad deal for Edmonton.

Capspace is useless if you cant spend it.

You dont got to live there just play there lul.

Holland had money to spend and could give most FA Dman more money than they would have got with other teams. Sure he would have to overpay one or two but still better than having a 37 year old making over 5mill. Mccabe, Murray, Martinez, Hamilton were all significantly better options. Mccabe especially who would have been happy to leave Buffalo.

You need to be perfectly ignorant of the free agency signing history to not know Edmonton isn't an attractive destination.

But saving capspace money to sign MOFO DOUGIE HAMILTON?! REALLY!? LIKE IF THEY HAD A CHANCE!

This is the perfect example of someone not living in reality. While you live in Lalaland, the GM jumped on a concrete opportunity to improve his team.

Stan Bowman managed to sucker someone into taking that awful contract...that's impressive.

Paying 3M for 2 years of Keith is pretty good 😉

The team is better without trading for him at all. E6HYYXJWUAM-D4N?format=jpg&name=large Paying 5.5M for that is a mind numbingly bad move.

> Capspace is useless if you cant spend it

Yea so you make smart moves with the cap, not waste it by paying 5.5M for a washed up d man HAHA, especially with a flat cap!

Just when we thought the Oilers were out of incompetent GM work, Holland threw them back in with this. McDavid and Draisaitl are going to retire without a cup to their names, aren't they?

It’s not awful. If Keith only had one year left it would be a wash. But he will bring to Edmonton a lot of what they are missing. He can still play solid minutes. He can mentor. I don’t mind it. Little pricy.

I mean it’s not like the Oilers traded for a useless prospect bust defenseman and gave up a 1st rounder that turned into an elite centre. Like c’mon. What are the chances?

Both teams lose.

Edmonton gets an overpaid #4 defender that's regressing massively and give up a solid #6 guy and a pick.

Chicago gets the cap space to overpay Seth Jones both in the trade and the new contract.

Caleb Jones isn't even their 4th best defensive prospect.

And there’s another trade to add to the extremely complicated trade web that includes nearly every significant trade the Oilers have ever made.

QUESTION:

How does this trade impact UFA's Barrie and Larsson? Are both gone this summer? I figured Barrie priced himself out of EDM, but what's the word on Larsson?

*Insert you blew it meme*

Wow Ken Holland what are you doing, I imagine this means Klefbom is probably retiring so Edmonton protects Keith, Nurse, Bear as their 3d for Seattle but this is a horrible trade, how is Edmonton giving up the 3rd unless Oilers win the cup this won’t be a fair trade and there’s no way the Oilers win this one

Am i the only one here who feels bad for Keith?

The guy is a former Norris/Conn Smyth winner/Stanley cup winner, All Star, Team Canada Gold olympian, hall of famer......etc etc etc....... Just wants to be closer to his son.......etc etc

.....but because the GM acquiring him, did it like such a klutz, Keiths name is being dragged through the dirt along with him. Shame.

Keith @ 50% for a 5th rounder would have been a pretty decent trade for EDM but no Holland just had to......well.... Holland.

3rd Rd picks are over rated; lets look at both Oilers and Hawks 3rd Rd picks selection between 2015-2019.

2015 -
Oilers; Dennis Yan,
Hawks; Dennis Gilbert.

Close but no Dennis Savard.

2016 -
Oilers; Markus Niemeläinen,
Hawks; Wouter Peeters.

Found a 7th-8th Dman, congrats.

2017 -
Oilers; Dmitri Samorukov,
Hawks; Keith Petruzzelli.

break out wikipedia, never heard of these 2.

2018 -
Oilers; Jordan Harris,
Hawks; Jake Wise.

umm....ok.

2019 -
Oilers; John Ludvig,
Hawks; Nathan Légaré.

err....nope.

Did I prove my point yet about 3rd Rd picks being over rated ?

That's 10 players and we've managed to find only 1 part time NHL'er.

I feel bad for Keith the way EDM fans are treating him. I ran into him at a local restaurant when SJS were in the finals. He was such a nice guy to talk to. Duncs will prove himself to them.

Jordan Harris was drafted by Montreal and looks to be a future top 6 defensemen in this league, also Keith has negative value when you include his contract.

Not that i dont agree with you but using picks from 2018-2019 is too soon for a fair analysis. Also using these two teams drafting record shows more about how badly their drafting is then the picks being useless. Other teams have done well drafting 3rd rounders.

Well i dont feel fans are mistreating him per se. But I do feel his name is being lessened because of the trade. I think fans are more pissed at Holland, not Keith but by proxy is taking a hit unfairly.

I just grabbed the players selected with the Oilers and Hawks picks, no matter who had them. Petruzzelli is a Wing selection.

And Harris has no NHL contract. And is tiny Dman, not looking good when both the Habs and Bolts prove size matter on the DCorps.
