I just grabbed the players selected with the Oilers and Hawks picks, no matter who had them. Petruzzelli is a Wing selection.

And Harris has no NHL contract. And is tiny Dman, not looking good when both the Habs and Bolts prove size matter on the DCorps.

Jordan Harris is exactly the same size as the guy who won the Norris this year. Should teams not have drafted Adam Fox LITERALLY IN THE 3RD ROUND EITHER.......?

Harris has no contract because he wanted to graduate college before turning pro. Bergevin tried to sign him and he refused.

Harris was offered a contract by the habs in April, but decided to go back to University for a final year instead. While that is a bit concerning for his future as a Canadien, he’s on the right track to being an NHLer. Get back to me in 3-4 years and we’ll see where we are.

Also like @KSIxSKULLS said, the value of a 3rd round pick is irrelevant to this trade, because if it was Keith for future considerations it would still be a loss for the Oilers.

Not unless there’s some fallouts with what’s happening in court. Although I’m not sure whether the courts can make people lose their jobs instead of punish the corporation, but we’ll see how it goes. Obviously morally he should be out of a job right now, but judging by their stance on the issue that’s being investigated, the Blackhawks organization clearly has no morals.

uhhhhhhhhhhhhhh if a team doesn't have their original pick, it's not their pick. if you're going to compare organizational third round picks, maybe get that part right.

i'd also go back farther, too. five years doesn't cut it for draft analysis

Old and slow with high salary cap and NTC. How is this a good deal for Edmonton?
Oilers need to turf Holland, Tippet and the rest of the management who have been squandering the oilers talent for the last 20 years. Especially Lowe and friends.

How little does EDM think of Jones?

McDavid has two choices at this point. He leave, or demand he gets final say on all decisions.
The head office in EDM will prevent them from ever winning a cup.

3rd Rd picks are over rated; lets look at both Oilers and Hawks 3rd Rd picks selection between 2015-2019.

2015 -
Oilers; Dennis Yan,
Hawks; Dennis Gilbert.

Close but no Dennis Savard.

2016 -
Oilers; Markus Niemeläinen,
Hawks; Wouter Peeters.

Found a 7th-8th Dman, congrats.

2017 -
Oilers; Dmitri Samorukov,
Hawks; Keith Petruzzelli.

break out wikipedia, never heard of these 2.

2018 -
Oilers; Jordan Harris,
Hawks; Jake Wise.

umm....ok.

2019 -
Oilers; John Ludvig,
Hawks; Nathan Légaré.

err....nope.

Did I prove my point yet about 3rd Rd picks being over rated ?

That's 10 players and we've managed to find only 1 part time NHL'er.

To be fair the Hawks are very high on Jake Wise and he trains with Jonathan Toews. He’s been marred by a slew of injuries his whole amateur career. They’re hoping he can get healthy to see what they got in him but we’ll see.

omg this makes me so angry. What in the world, Ken? Seriously tho? In an interview Ken said that he looked at Keiths resumee and what he has done in the past and that's why he wanted to aquire him. I mean no reason to take a look at the stats, Keiths still an 85 in NHL 21. Perfect. Let's get him and his contract and PAY for it.

If Edmonton keeps Keith's minutes to below 18 a game you will see a completely different player.

The fact that Klefbom's career might be over makes this trade suck way less for EDM than I thought at the beginning. It's still an overpay for a washed-up, expensive defenseman, though.

Ok ok ok. The real question has to be. Is the top 4 in minutes for Dmen only...like 2nd pair or does McDavid count in that conditional ice time? What about their goalie?

Just watched Holland's interview about the trade. EDM reporters took him to task. I liked seeing reporters ask him tough questions. That's the nicest and most political way to say "Caleb Jones was never seeing ice time next year anyway" as he could have possibly put it.

The more I look at this deal the more I just don't get it.

Keith wanted to go to a northerly west coast team to be near his kid. Fair enough, but Seattle and Calgary probably weren't interested and Vancouver doesn't have the cap space.

So Edmonton was the only possible destination. Plus its not like Edmonton absolutely needed to make this trade. They had ALL the leverage... and somehow still got the raw end of the deal

I get that Jones was probably going to be lost in the expansion draft, but instead of losing him for nothing they lost him AND a draft asset for a declining player on a bad contract with TWO years left. Which looks really short sighted when Edmonton still has to sign all their RFAs and essentially doesn't have a starting goaltender.

Detroit acquired Staal last year on a similar cap hit but on an expiring deal and got a second round pick for doing so. Even considering the expansion draft, I have no idea how Edmonton could see this as a win.

Now watch Keith put up 50 points next season because if these playoffs proved anything hockey is a complete crapshoot.

I think people are exaggerating the awfulness of this trade.

Value wise the trade seems reasonable. Yes Keith is aging, but people take gambles on aging players all the time. Perhaps with a little lightening of minutes/competition Keith can accel. And he brings leadership it you believe in that. Jones has some upside but is mostly depth and a third is not huge value. So from a pure value standpoint it's fine.

The reason I think this trade is dumb is that it was just a terrible target for Edmonton to use finite cap space on.

So I more feel like Edmonton lost than Chicago won hahaha
