Why would Calgary do this? It makes no sense for them.

Sell it to me from a Flames perspective. How does this benefit them?

Flames would be stupid to decline. Marner 100 point scorer , a top15 prospect in amirov , and a D man that’s ready to play and step up in case one of Calgary’s D get plucked from expansion . I’m seeing every Calgary fan saying no.

Both players aren't available. Marner is a 100 point player with a top 5 player. Flames dont have a top 20 player in the leauge IMO. Tkachuk is the future captain, Mangiapane is a huge part of this team

Canucks aren't giving a first for a year of Reilly. Bennett has had a good one third of season in his career....last season. Certainly would be a 4.1m disappointment to any team.

Well, first of all, you've spelled his name wrong.

Secondly, you didn't answer my question so I will ask it again...

Why would the Flames do this? How does this benefit them over keeping Tkachuk and Mangiapane?

Both of those players combined make less than MM and will most certainly play in the top six. Possibly even on the top line.

I just don't see how acquiring Marner and his 10.9 million dollar AAV with an AHL defensman and a kid that likely won't play in the NHL for two years helps them win now?

I don’t watch Calgary enough to understand there wants and needs as a hockey club. All I know is Toronto need a guy like “Tkachuk”. Literally the missing piece to there club . Take whatever accept A.M and I would make this deal.

Every team would love to have a guy like Tkachuk. That is why the price would be astronomical to acquire him. Add Mangiapane to the deal and now you've made the asking price even higher.

Nylander + Robertson + Sandin would likely get the Flames listening. (And that would just be for Tkachuk). That isn't a trade that I am interested in making but, think along those lines.

The bottom line is, the price for Tkachuk is likely more than the Leafs are willing to pay at this point. They way you acquire those guys is to draft them.

Some Leafs fans will point to Marner's scoring totals and try to justify a fair deal. That isn't the big picture. Even though Tkachuk does not produce the scoring numbers that MM does, he provides immeasurable other intangibles that are a rare commodity in todays NHL.

It just isn't a very realistic trade from a Calgary perspective.

Most Calgary fans will say no over and over while Marner may get you 100 points during the regular season he vanishes in the playoffs and everyone in the league knows it but Leaf fans can't quite digest this

Actually they only make less this year. Tkachuk has a 9m QO next season that walks him to ufa.

Marner: 32 playoff games 25 points
Tkachuk: 15 playoff games 5 points

Marner had one bad series against the Habs… your argument is invalid.

This is a decent package. If I was the flames gm I would probably take it. But we both know they aren’t going to. They are pushing to be a contender. Marner for Tkachuk fits the bill but amirov and Lilly (while already having andersson and tanev) does not replace what bread eater is going to do next season.

The trade is bad for both sides. Leafs have to many contracts coming up next year to bother with tkachuks 9m QO and lord knows what mangiapane will earn next to Tavares.

Leafs and flames don’t make good trade partners. Neither is looking to move big roster players.

I'm not complaining about the package, just the timing from when we were talking in the other thread. You are right though Calgary doesnt do it simply because they arent rebuilding.

I half expect Zary to be traded this summer despite looking extremely promising and probably a year out from NHL ready. I say this because I think Calgary is Hail Mary position, Pelletier can probably make the team from camp but the need to upgrade something in the top 6.

Trading for Amirov is contradictory to what Calgary is most likely to do this summer

One bad series ? Seriously are you watching the same hockey as the rest of us ? He disappears in the playoffs you do realize Marner makes more than any other winger in the league with the exception of Panarin . This is an elite players ? Kucherov has 66 points in 48 playoff games that's a elite player . The Leafs will never go anywhere with there horses tied to Marners wagon

Do you think they can land him without moving Tkachuk? Like maybe a 3 way deal similar to the first Duchene trade
