Why would Buffalo trade for a defenseman that will be on waivers for them to grab for free before the season even starts? Never mind the craziness of adding an extra pick for no reason.

Rasmus Ristolainen who has played 542 games in the NHL scoring 46 goals and 199 assists for a .45 points a game average plus a 2nd Round Pick in the 2021 draft.... for this:

A 7th Round draft pick Right Defenseman who is 4 years has played 54 games scoring 2 goals and 8 assists for a .185 points per game player.

I am surprised you would not want GM Adams to retain 50% of Risto's salary or make it Buffalo's 2nd Round Pick.

Ask yourself if you were BM Kevin Adams would you accept this return for Risto & a 2nd Round Pick..... if you say yes you will not be GM of the Buffalo Sabres after you make the trade.

I don't even like Risto but he has way more value than this.
