EDM accepts after the expansion draft. But why would the Yots do this? Ok, Kessel isn't what he used to be but Russell is a solid bottom pair D at an ok price and a low 2nd is a low 2nd. I think Oilers would win this trade, which means Ken Holland can't let that happen.

Wouldn't mind these trades, but can only see Edmonton accepting. Hopefully Garland is signed for less, but we'll see how that goes. I like most of your UFA signings. Could definitely see something like this happening.

Oilers would only be able to afford this if Koskinen is going too.

Their fans seem to think they would.
That is a common trade to Devils

Value wise it's a decent deal for the Oilers but in reality we're crowded on RW and empty at LW so need someone who can play the other side.

They cant afford to since Footes contract will be dirt cheap next year

- Tyler Johnson at $5m
+ Cal Foote at $1m

Net AAV number (-$4m) is pretty good, no?

And if it will take an asset to move Tyler Johnson, why not part with one exposed to Seattle?

Maybe I am looking at this all wrong, but I see two "move-TJ" scenarios...

(1) Trade TJ with Foote and protect 7-3: TBL Loses Tyler Johnson, Cal Foote, and maybe Mathieu Joseph
(2) Trade TJ with 1st and protect 4-4: TBL Loses Tyler Johnson, Ondrej Palat and 1st pick

Then the trade-off is: Foote + Joseph....or....Palat + 1st
(or similar to this...exact trades/protections may be off)

From the coyotes perspective, there headed for another 3-4 year retool/rebuild. So while Kessel still has some value at the age of 33 and will more than likely leave in free agency next year, he doesn't fit in their overall plan. As for the value side I think it's relatively low for someone who was on pace for 30 goals and 63 points in 82 games simply due to the fact he will be 34 come next season and has been known to be somewhat difficult to coach. But knowing Holland he'd probably be willing to give up a first and Holloway for him.

Foote will be exposed, that's not an issue since Tampa will be paying Seattle to take one of Johnson or McDonagh with other assets.

I think you are missing the idea here, Foote will not be moved because he is cheap and Tampa needs cheap contracts next year

If you are Seattle, you are taking Johnson or Foote?
If Foote is exposed, they are 100% taking him.

I see your point here and agree. As an Oilers fan I could see Kessel fit in. I'd be willing to give it a try for that price.

But you nailed it, Holland probably rather wants to give up Holloway and a 1st for Kessel if Armstrong offered him your deal. In the presser when asked about this deal Holland would aggressively state that Kessel has won cups in the past which makes it worth the price because this automatically leads to winning cups in the present. And since Kessel and Keith have a combined 5 cups this means five cups for the Oilers as long as those two play.
