Great deal for Boston. I see them scoping up a big free agent this offseason.

Carlo continues to try and sign the best contract possible for not only himself but primarily the team.

Bruins keep developing that winning culture internally.

Sweeney has his warts as GM, but you can't deny that he's a ****ing master at re-signing his key guys for team friendly deals.

This is probably an unpopular opinion here but I think this is a bit much.

Not by a crazy amount or anything, but Carlo is a solid but 1-dimensional #4 getting paid like a top4 Dman.

It's just one of those deals that's a bit too much for a bit too long.

Signing Carlo to a 6 year extension suggests to me that the concussions he suffered throughout his career is not going to be an issue over the next 6 years.

Also, the cap hit of 4.1 million is not far off from the cap hit of 3.5 million that would have came with a qualifying offer.

So, I voted yes.

I hope I don't live to regret it smile

I don't know that I'd call him "1-dimensional" as he has untapped offense to his game. He made the team because of his defensive game and if you look at his d-partners they've typically been offensive minded. This forced Carlo to be more of a stay at home d-man and kind of abandon his offensive game. Now the last few years they've encouraged him to get more involved offensively and he has. Now is he going to be an offensive force? no not at all. IMO he's a guy that at his best is probably a 20-25pt d-man who plays a shutdown role and PK horse.

So, I think this is an overall good deal for BOS and 100% voted good deal. I did put something in bold because it sounds like you're saying he's a 1 dimensional player. For the record...I WOULD PAY $4.1M for a defensively responsible PKer in his prime. That's an extremely underrated thing to do in this league...Nick Hjalmarrson wasn't a point producer. But it definitely sounds like you also think he's one dimensional.

Beauty contract. For the next 6 years the right side is going to have a solid physical presence, and keep the 6’5” defensive defenceman wearing black and gold until he’s 30. Fair cap hit, trending towards a steal in the later years likely. Good move by the B’s

I'm envious. Which would you rather have -- Brandon Carlo for six years, or Josh Manson for one plus five more years?

This is an amazing deal for Carlo and the Bruins. The term makes it even better. Carlo will thrive in a to 4d role for the Bruins in the coming years and its almost certain that this contract will become a steal (if its not already). Nice to see Carlo put pen to paper with the Bruins, though. Love watching him play there. Just a straight up outstanding signing.

No not at all. He's shown he can put up some decent points for a d-man, it just hasn't been consistent over his career. For example his shot is better than his numbers show. His first year he had a 6.8% S% and this past year it was 7% S% for Carlo. Between that 0.0%, 1.7% and 3.6% from his rookie year to last year. For his career he plays at around a 15pt, which for a d-man respectable, but he has additional room offensively to be a 20-25pt guy.

Maybe but I think they should also plan for the future

My idea rn

Sign Danault (Bergeron replacement in 2 years)
Extend Hall (wants a 3-4 year deal probs 5-6mill)
Get a top 4 LD (Murray, Suter, Mccabe, etc)

I just want to see a big move.

Great deal, Carlo is a good defenceman and contract will be a steal in a couple years as he continues to grow
