I think the big moves come after Seattle

rn one prediction

Duchene to Columbus

Blake Comeau to the moon.

Or the canvas if he agrees to go at it in the ring.

I don't know that I'd call him "1-dimensional" as he has untapped offense to his game. He made the team because of his defensive game and if you look at his d-partners they've typically been offensive minded. This forced Carlo to be more of a stay at home d-man and kind of abandon his offensive game. Now the last few years they've encouraged him to get more involved offensively and he has. Now is he going to be an offensive force? no not at all. IMO he's a guy that at his best is probably a 20-25pt d-man who plays a shutdown role and PK horse.

I love this guy but by analytics and eye test he's a mess offensively IMO

Depends on what you consider a mess. Again he's been asked for his entire career to cover defensively for his d-partner. Look at Krug's 5v5 advanced number this year, they we're down once he no longer had Carlo to cover for him.

True, for some reason I still can't compute Krug being in St Louis. Odd fit

Considering how much I was thinking they were going to have to pay him, great deal.

If he can stay healthy (sometimes tough for players that play his style), It should be great for the Boston D corp. Win for both sides

Great contract for the Bruins. They have loads of cap space, assuming Krejci and Hall walk. Eichel would be such a great fit in Boston, but I just don't think they have the assets to make this deal work.

He also only played 27 games because Tom Wilson is a POS.

Assuming he is past his concussion issues the term is fine. The $$ is a little high, both Chariot and Edmundson were signed @ 3.5, and i would put both those players ahead of Carlo.

Might as well take Brenden Dillon over Mikhail Sergachev then

Good one.

Comparing clubs with 17 NHLers now signed & the "CAP" remaining...

TBL - US$0 Cap Space
NYI - US$6M Cap Space
TML - US$9M Cap Space
PHI - US$13M Cap Space
STL - US$17M Cap Space
BOS - US$26M Cap Space (aren't at the FLOOR yet)...

Boston's players continue to take discounts in order to remain competitive. Gotta love the players playing for their jersey and not themselves

I'm envious. Which would you rather have -- Brandon Carlo for six years, or Josh Manson for one plus five more years?

Manson, based on Carlo's concussion history.

this is rly going to be good in a couple years once he rly improves and now we have even more cap since miller retired and hopefully the bruins sign sutter so we can have some defense veteran presence which would be fitting for the playoffs and we didn't have that when the Caps signed Chara and now I hate the capitals even more because of that

not sure what youre getting at- terrible analogy, terrible comparison. Sergachevs last deal was a RFA deal- and he has way more upside and offense to his game than any of the dmen mentioned, he wouldve gotten even more if he had been a UFA or if Tampa wasnt up against the cap. Dillon is 7 years older and signed as a UFA. He is a step below all the dmen listed while Sergachev is the best of the lot.

I wasn't talking about the contract either. It's the gap in the level of play of Dillon and Sergachev.

I was trying to illustrate what a good contract this is for even the simplest of minds. Hitherto, I never suspected you might be in that category.

This has the potential to be a great deal.
But he has 15 goals and 40 points in over 300 NHL games.

He is defensive giant but strictly on that, this seems like a bit much.

Carlo does indeed reduce the incoming amount of shots, but not nearly by as much as he reduces his own team's. I'd hope to 4 defensemen have not positive results in those categories. Carlo to me is a #5-6 who should mostly play defensive minutes, but even his isolated PK impacts are pretty bad.

I guess my question is; how do you judge when a players defensive ability doesn't outweigh their negative offensive impact? What would it take for you to say Carlo is not a net positive player?

Because if you don't have answers to those questions you haven't really constructed a sound way of evaluating hockey players.

Carlo continues to try and sign the best contract possible for not only himself but primarily the team.

Bruins keep developing that winning culture internally.

4 mil range is an average contract for a 2nd pairing. This narrative that it's "team friendly" something right out of the boston media or something?
There is no savings on that contract, at all.

This is probably an unpopular opinion here but I think this is a bit much.

Not by a crazy amount or anything, but Carlo is a solid but 1-dimensional #4 getting paid like a top4 Dman.

It's just one of those deals that's a bit too much for a bit too long.

It's not the dollar figure I mind on this contract but I think you hit the nail on the head with the length.
Look I know BOS homers will go crazy, but the guy has injury issues. He's had like 90000000000000 concussions already. Hell two last year knocking him out for long periods of time.
I don't know if I want a guy who's constantly on IR for 6 years.
If he didn't have the injury issues, it's whatever, probably good it's signed for 6 years, as the cap hit goes down over time.
But he does have the injury issues and the last thing anyone wants is Nick Bjugstad 2 for 6 years.
