Grzelcyk plays on the first pair for a reason, he creates many opportunities and uses his speed and playmaking abilities to his advantage, by this I can tell you have little knowledge of the Bruins if you think Suter and Oleksiak are better.

This deal is similar to Pesce’s . Will be a steal in 1-2 years

I was thinking the same thing. Both Carlo and Pesce are also two of the most criminally underrated players in the league imo

I was thinking he was going to get 4-4.5 for any deal over 4 years, so 4.1 is a value I'm extremely happy with.

This is purely for the window the Bruins have left. I think Oleksiak alongside McAvoy would be a very good pairing. I think Carlo with Suter (and also Gryz) will be an extremely effective pairing. Gryz and Carlo have proven in the past how effective they are. Any of the 3 LDs could move up and down depending on chemistry and match ups, these are just the ones I thought would be good to start the year.

He had two concussions this past year. As long as he can stay healthy will be a great deal long term.

I see what you're saying, but the Gryz and McAvoy pairing is perfect, Mixing a speedy offensive defenseman with a physical defensive defenseman, that pair has done the Bruins wonders.

I think this might help NYI in their negotiations with Pelech. Pelly is a stronger player but if we can get him around the $5m number for this length I'd be all over it.

Yeah these pairings weren't me trying to say Gryz isn't worthy of a top pairing assignment, I think he showed he can handle it. There are also some games (with every defenseman Bruins have) where you wonder what they're doing on D. With McAvoy really taking a jump this year in confidence in the offensive zone, part of my reasoning is that maybe Oleksiak allows him to drive play even more with a big-bodied defenseman next to him.

But a D of:
Gryz-McAvoy
Oleksiak-Carlo
Suter-Clifton

would still work for me.

I agree. Suter has declined out of a top 4 position in my opinion, and his veteran presence would help Clifton, who is still young, the role modeling would help him maybe become more of a 2nd pair defenseman later in his career.

Good deal and term on Carlo so well done Don Sweeney. Sets the market for Jamie Oleksiak as well as a number of other similar style defenders

Yeah Suter is definitely declining, but has still shown he can eat minutes and drive play offensively. Think I saw he was in the 86th percentile when it came to o-zone play. Krug and Carlo worked so well together, which is why I went the initial route of putting Suter with Carlo.

Wizardry by Sweeney. He stinks at a lot of stuff, but so good at extending his own players

The average ACGM amount for Carlo: $4.14 million x 4 years
The Evolving Hockey estimate: $3.07 million x 3 years

Actual: $4.10 million x 6 years

They are. Big physical shutdown guys. Basically who you want Chabot, Werenski, Rielly, Quinn Hughes etc to be paired with

In the playoffs when the Islanders got physical with McAvoy where was Grzcelyk? Having someone who steps forward when the games get tougher is who I want playing with McAvoy. No more free runs at the Bruins best player. Like Grzcelyk but it benefits him and the Bruins if he plays lower in the lineup.

Pelech is not settling for 6 X 5M. He is too good. Carlo's deal was influenced somewhat by the concussion history he now has and the uncertainty that it can create. Depending on term have to believe Pelech will get anywhere from 6-8 M. Guarantee McAvoy is not settling for less than full value on his next deal just because Carlo signed for 4.1M. Neither should Pelech.
