Chasing a 3 peat

Created by: Jim_Benning_Almost
Team: 2021-22 Tampa Bay Lightning
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 14, 2021
Published: Jul. 14, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Here's a potential of TB being able to take a serious run at another cup by leveraging assets which other teams have discarded, but are still good.
Assumptions:
- Suter and Parise want to stay together, want to win a cup, and will sign bargain deals.
- Various other veteren players who have made money, but not won, would come over.

Steps:
1) Grease Seattle to take McDonaugh (1st rounder, maybe more needed)
2) Trade a solid, young but expensive player to the team of the guy who originally drafted him. Probably not get his true worth because of flat cap year.
3) Bite the bullet and buyout Tyler Johnson. Don't think anyone is going to trade for him.

Then sign some UFAs who still have value:
- Bring back Goodrow, 3 x $2M
- Sign Parise & Suter, $1M each.
- Sceviour and Helm are reliable depth forwards with experience.
- Marc Staal wants a cup like his brothers.
- James Reimer is a solid back up who won't complain about being a back up.

23 player roster with $265k to spare.

Normally AC would demand a higher return, but in this particular year, teams know that TB is up against a wall, so they look to take advantage...and Yzerman does just that.

Seems low for Cirelli. The leafs could sure use a guy like him.

I’d even upgrade that VGK 3rd smile

I don’t see Tampa moving their younger guys.

He's too expensive to stay, and likely easier to get Seattle to bite on him. Suter replaces him admirably...some would say even better.

Stamkos is more difficult to move than AC, plus he has a NMC, so he'll do whatever he feels like.

It would be a philosophy of "all in" on a 3peat, that's for sure.

Would you accept Washington's #1 pick + Rangers' #2 pick? Because that's where I started in my head. This team design wasn't about the haul you could get for Cirelli, it was more about who you could potentially ice and win that 3rd cup in a row....this time without cheating the LTIR.

The fact that they protected McDonagh when they could have used his cap space tells me that they will pay to move Johnson to the Kraken. Gourde is definitely quite tempting tho. Dom has Gourde as the Kraken's number 1 center going into this season with 105 point pace in the Pacific. Depends how the Kraken want to build. If they are taking Carey Price then they go with Gourde, I think. If they avoid Price, they'll probably be all about assets moving forward (I have made a competitive team with Price and cap flexibility under 60 million but that is without Johnson) and go with TJ

    At the least..

    Tyler Johnson
    1st round pick in 2022
    2nd round pick in 2023
    Cal Foote

But i think the Bolts need to give more
