Why not?

Isles are one of several teams who will be desperate to shed salary...don't know much about the prospect- but Maata probably slides into 2 or 3LD, they gain a pick, and they get about 3.4M in cap space. Between Leddy, Ladd, and Komorov...probably 2 of the 3 -and maybe all 3- will need to be moved.

Leddy is not a cap dump - they can trade him without taking back a contract

If the Isles do have to trade him...and Lou can pull that off- then kudos to the organization. I just think it's gonna be a lot tougher than most think because many are making the assumption that Seattle will take a team's "good" player off their hands along with the corresponding cap hit. Given the flat cap situation I wouldn't be surprised to see Francis choose some teams' cheaper players- so that after the exp draft several teams will be in panic mode because they need to shed anywhere between 4 and 10M. At this point he will circle the wagons and rake in as many 2022 picks- supposedly a very deep draft- as possible.

The reason why Lou is trying to trade Leddy now is because he doesn’t want to lose him for nothing in the expansion draft. Even in a worst case scenario buying out Leddy (4.6 mill in savings) makes more sense than taking back maata.

If you're seeing zero value in Maatta then I see your point...I just think that him coming back with 1/2 retained still provides a tangible benefit as 6 or 7D...plus you get the prospect and another pick. Of course a buyout is an option- but I'd only use that option in the case where you can't get any assets back- or might even have to sweeten to move....shouldn't be the case with Leddy. But also keep in mind- a buyout provides a substantial savings this year- but ties up more than 2M next year.
