**Forgot to add Michael Rasmussen in the deal. going to Buffalo from Detroit**

Buffalo gets a very solid return in the form of draft compensation for their disgruntled superstar, while shedding nearly $40m worth of Jeff Skinner's contract. They do retain a bit of salary and take on the final year of Koskinen's deal from Edmonton in order to maximize their return.

Edmonton sheds two albatross contracts and pays a rather steep, yet worthy price to create some cap space and get their superstar duo some help in an effort to compete right away.

Detroit surrenders a bit of draft capital and takes on some massive deals but, that nets them a generational Center that is in his prime and will help transition this Red Wings team into the future and back to respectability.

No way Buffalo touches this with a 10 foot stick. They have to retain 6.5M in dead cap? Plus they only get a first this year and have to wait TWO years for another first?
Have to think if they're keeping 6.5M in dead cap that they would just keep skinner and trade Jack at his full cap and get WAYYYY more than this trade.
I think you had a good idea in principle but there needs to be a more immediate return for buffalo.

The problem with this is BUF isn't going to retain any salary on Eichel. If he truly is a generational player as you state, the team bringing him on should have no issue taking on his full cap hit. There's also no point in retaining 50% on Skinner for the next 6 years, as his true value is around $4.5 and you might as well keep him. Finally, they need a few prospects / young players coming back in the Eichel trade. It's all well and good to get a bunch of picks, but you really have no idea how those are going to turn out.
