I think it's cool, though Suzuki will be in need of an extention next season and that man is going to get payed (The Hockey News thinks they should try to lock him up long-term as early as this off-season for $7-8 million per). Caufield will also be a wealth man by the season after. Romanov will need to be extended, as will Evans and Kotkaniemi. While those last three would not be as expensive, every dollar adds up. Locking in contracts for Duchene and Hamilton and Tarasenko sound nice now, but every dollar commited in a flat-cap world prevents certain transactions. I would just be nervous that they would not be able to sign the young talent because they made trades to sign talented, yet older, players. Though I could be convinced otherwise.
I think Bergevin is probably thinking the same thing (though he probably wants to somehow replace Weber, but on a more affordable deal. This is just me spitballing, but if Adam Larsson isn't signed by Edmonton, he would be a player I would be looking at if I were Bergevin.)
