Back to the Finals

Created by: NicP13
Team: 2021-22 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 15, 2021
Published: Jul. 15, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Weber traded to Nashville so they can put him on LTIR and not get screwed by the cap restructure penalty
NSH trades 5 years of Duchene at $8M for
2 years of Byron at $3.4M + $3M retained cap ($1.6M saved)
+ 3 years of $3M retained cap ($5M saved)

We get Duchene at $5M for 5 years which is fair to me.

Drouin and a 1st round (31st) for Tarasenko (given he passes a medical test)
STL retains $2M so that the salaries match for both.

Armia, Lekhonen and Perry resigns post expansion draft. Danault walks (he's asking too much for a two-way center playing only one-way)

Dougie Hamilton is signed and became automatically our much needed PMD. Great 1-2 punch at LD with Hamilton and Petry.

Finally, Jake Allen being selected by the Kraken (only unprotected player worth taking really). We sign Jonathan Bernier (he finishes his career in his hometown province)

BOOM Stanley Cup Finals once again!

Best one I’ve seen in a while….I just think that Tarasenko is worth a prospect more like Brook and/or Ylonen

I think it's cool, though Suzuki will be in need of an extention next season and that man is going to get payed (The Hockey News thinks they should try to lock him up long-term as early as this off-season for $7-8 million per). Caufield will also be a wealth man by the season after. Romanov will need to be extended, as will Evans and Kotkaniemi. While those last three would not be as expensive, every dollar adds up. Locking in contracts for Duchene and Hamilton and Tarasenko sound nice now, but every dollar commited in a flat-cap world prevents certain transactions. I would just be nervous that they would not be able to sign the young talent because they made trades to sign talented, yet older, players. Though I could be convinced otherwise.

I think Bergevin is probably thinking the same thing (though he probably wants to somehow replace Weber, but on a more affordable deal. This is just me spitballing, but if Adam Larsson isn't signed by Edmonton, he would be a player I would be looking at if I were Bergevin.)

With Chiarot / Kulak / Perry off the books, there's a way to sign Suzuki 8 x 8M. It's gonna be tight, but Bergevin showed that he's capable of manoeuvring in tight cap space scenario.
Gallagher contract is gonna hurt us in the long term though.

I couldn't agree with you more. Gallagher is a heck of a player, but that much money on that much term says, at least to me, rewarding for what you've done in the past. I'm not sure he hits 30 goals again, and the punishment that he consistently receives will probably catch up to him (eventually).
