As a Nashville fan, I'd probably do that after the expansion draft. The cap hit for the 1st two years is a little more for us but it drops off for the last 2 seasons where it's just Colin White. Worth a roll of the dice for us if you ask me

Isles say no, don't want Zaitsev at all.

    Simplify the trade options:

    Ladd and 1st for a 6th

Hickey, Komarov and 2nd for 6th.

The key here is that you are trying to get rid of three real bad contracts for minimal assets which just wont fly. Cap space is the most/hardest thing to trade in the next few years. Ladd is buyout proof and will cost way more to move than Isles fans think. This trade clears the space needed to get Tarsenko and Pelech. Isles are in win now and shouldn't be all that worried about assets and more interested in what they can do to win now.

Isles already have $11M (Boychuk LTIR) to sign Pelech, Beau and Sorokin. Those should cost about $13M and when the Isles move Leddy that will give them $16M in cap.

Moving Ladd, Hickey and Komarov would be nice but not a necessity right now. As you mentioned Ladd is buyout proof, so more likely he gets buried in the minors again to save $1M, or best case he goes on LTIR as well. That leaves Hickey and Komarov to be moved, if that cost is too high the Isles will bury them in the minors as well to save a little over a $1M from both of them. The Isles would then have about $19M to spend, and potentially $24M if they move Eberle as well. Eberle could also be used in a Tarasenko deal, however I think Lou is more likely to pursue Parise and Palmieri.

Komarov has one year left at 3m and would likely cost a 2nd to dump.

Hickey has one year left at 2.5m. I’m not a big Bode Wilde fan but lets say he’s worth around a 3rd and he’s used to get the Sens to take Hickey on.

Ladd has two years left at 5.5m per year. That’s an 11m cap dump. Mayfield is okay but he did average just under 20 mins/game the last two years so he likely does have some value on that contract. Because the contract isn’t bad, I’m not sure the Isles would be interested in moving him but is he worth taking on Ladd’s contract?? I’d say no and not even close.

Id pass on the deal. Ottawa’s taking on 16.5m in cap dumps and only getting a 2nd, a B prospect and a bottom 4RD.

**Edit: Also the Sens are giving up Zaitsev for free?? He had a great year. He’s probably 1.5-2m overpaid but he’s useful to the team and plead carved out a role that he plays well. I’m not sure if you view him as a cap dump or something but there’s no reason to dump him when the team isn’t worried about the cap….
