Eichel and Zibanejad

Created by: Raggy
Team: 2022-23 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 15, 2021
Published: Jul. 15, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Just messing around to see how it would work, don't think it's likely to able to get and keep both. Zibanejad probably 8+ mill a year but may take slight discount with higher term.

Gotta clear cap by moving Buch and give up young assets for Eichel.

Connor Brown trade really just for theory. Moving Buch for a less skilled but cheaper and cost controlled middle 6 winger.

By the time Kakko, Laf, Nils, Miller all need $, Kreider will no longer have a full NMC. Use that money and move other veteran depth if needed.

I honestly think theres no reason the rangers shouldnt land eichel for wte it costs, Him paired with Panarin would be filthy on the top line. That being said, given the interest around the league in Eichel i think the offer is an obvious one and it starts with Kakko and this years 1st

Buffalo would need Lafreniere to give up Eichel.

I dont think you get eichel without one high end forward going back. It can't be all futures.

I don't think the Rangers should go for Eichel unless they know Zibanejad is asking for 8.5+.

As for the Eichel trade, all rumors have them lowering their price and I don't think they are going to get an offer that people think they might. Sabres have little to no leverage right now.

Kakko is looking more and more like a bust. I don't think he cuts it.

That won't be enough for Eichel and why does the Norris winner take 7M?

Their leverage is that they have an franchise player under contract for 5 more years at a fair cap hit.

Because he forced himself to the Rangers as it's the only team he wanted to play for? I have no idea what he is going to ask but he's definitely going to give the Rangers some sort of discount.

10 million with a neck injury is not what I would call a fair cap hit. Very public and messy breakup between the team and player usually doesn't lead to maximizing return.

Then why are you wanting him if he's 'injured and overpaid'?

Buffalo doesn't even trade him for Lafreniere if he doesn't want to leave.

But he does want to leave and he's injured. They are going to trade him at the worst possible time. Read the description, I was just seeing how it could work out to keep both. I don't trade for Eichel unless Zibanejad is asking for too much $.

I'm not saying the NYR don't have the pieces to make a deal. They do... but the offer you made isn't close.

I do think he'll give them a discount but not that big of a discount. 8M at minimum. He'll most likely get 9.5M

They very well need to add more, but it's not the price you and some are saying. 0% chance Lafreniere is in that trade. Swap Kakko in maybe, or add Buch to it.

Hard to tell, wouldn't be surprised any dollar amount. I was figuring he would be seeking 8-9 mill, gives 7 mill for 8 year deal with NMC.

Pass on the Buch trade. Ottawa needs C, RW & RD. Trading from a position of weakness to acquire a LW and bolster their biggest strength doesn’t make much sense.

I think you're being a little harsh there. The kid is 20 years old and has scored my goals then anyone in his draft class, and is 2nd in points. Barzal, Sheifele, and Giroux were all in junior hockey at Kakkos ago. Also, the kid has already turned into a terrific 200foot player which signals that he is mature and understands the NHL game. Let's give the kid some time to figure it out. I think he is gunna turn into a great player.

He’s a left shot. Ottawa only has a handful of players that shoot right a the moment. Point still stands about trading right shot wingers for left shot wingers.

If Stuetzle and Norris are the top 6 centres, they’re both left shots as well. Having a top line that all shot the same way isn’t ideal. Not the end of the world but I’m sure there’s a better fit somewhere else.

Completely fair if Ottawa doesn't think it's a fit, more of a Rangers trade in theory. Point I was looking for was a cheaper middle 6 winger to plug in to move Buch, Connor Brown type of player.
