I dont understand the timing of Keith trade... could have held out... tried free agency, if you swing and miss, then you circle back on Keith with more leverage and potential salary retention. $3 million over paid and a gamble he performs at 2LD.

The Oilers have 3 young promising defenceman in Broberg, Bouchard, and Bear who better to mentor them then a guy with 3 CUPS and 2 NORRIS TROPHYIES. I know that those were a long time ago but he still can teach. Also Keith has played more playoff games then everyone else on the Oilers combined. The Blackhawks were asking for one of Bear or McLeod if there was going to be any salary taken back. the thing that everyone is to busy laughing about to remember is that there is like a 90% chance Klef never plays again so his cap hit of just over 4 mil is going on LTIR so with that 4 mil and Jones 850k Keith isn't really costing the Oilers that much, they wouldn't have just been able to use klefs 4 mil on a forward because we would have had to get someone to replace klef on 2nd pair LD. It isn't every day Dman of Keiths status wants to come play for you so Holland made a move.
