Minnesota has to get rid of some contracts

Description
I know this isn’t ideal but we have to get rid of some expiring contracts this year if we want to have any cap space in upcoming seasons.

The goal is to get money off the books and bring in ready to play prospects (Allison and Poehling) that aren’t making a big salary yet.

We also need to bring in some picks considering we will be banking on prospects taken in this years draft during the 2023-2025 seasons due to those being the worst dead cap years.

i hate helping out minny but suter and parise's buyouts should just be averaged so it's consistent year to year. the $15m spike for two years in the middle is ridiculous. how do you build a team around that.

I honestly wish there was a way they could just average it over the next 8 years. They don’t stop paying Parise and Suter for 8 years so if they averaged it, the dead cap would be $6,705,127 per year. Thats far more manageable than having it at 12 mill for one year and then 14 mill for the following 2 years. Luckily we have probably a top 8 prospect pool in the league but having to bank on prospects is never a good thing. I’m not sure what Billy G is going to do but I doubt he would’ve bought out Parise and Suter if he didn’t have plan.

6.7M in dead cap for 8 years is far, far, far worse than what we have now.

Not if you put into consideration that salary cap will most assuredly go up sometime within the next 8 years. The chance of it going up by the end of the 14-15 million dollar dead cap seasons is unlikely. The issue is that during those 2023-2025 seasons we likely will just have to sell everything off and rebuild, we won’t have enough money to put a good team together that could contend.

That's still 6.7M in dead cap for EIGHT years. That's an entire top 6/top line forward or top pair defenseman. With how tight the cap already needs to be managed for great teams, you can't carry a hit that high for that long and expect to win a Cup.

We won't have to sell off everything during 2023-25. There are going to be some sacrifices made, and a player or two will need to be gone, but you're being way overdramatic. Those same cap hits have been here for almost 10 years. They're not suddenly going to force a complete tear down of everything we hold near and dear just because we have to replace those players with cheap contracts.

Difference is, they’ve been on the team the past 10 years and we’ve been mediocre the past 10 years. We now have to replace them which costs money and maintain the above average we now have which costs money, and it’s going to cost a lot more money than it has cost us past 10 years. I’m not trying to be negative about the situation but it’s not a good one to be in.

I love how Kaprisov refused 9M a year because he thinks he is worth closer to 10M and then signs for 7.8M

He refused 9M because he didn't want to sign an 8 year contract, not because he's demanding 10M.

I don’t know where you get you’re news pal but that’s not the reason. Also, Kaprizov hasn’t had anything to do with the contract talks, it’s all his agent as of right now. The reason his agent turned down the 9 million dollar 8 year contract is because his agent wants to get him a 3-4 year deal for less money so that he can sign a bigger contract at age 28-29 before he starts to lose value in his 30s. This was made public over a month ago, but yeah, you seem to know what you’re talking about lol.
