What is the logic behind the Detroit and Pittsburgh pick swap? Detroit accepts.

Could it be a destination for him? With that contract? Probably not.

I'd assume the plan is to protect Dumba at this point. And we don't really have any contracts to swap for Pettersson. They're all either mostly fair value or soon to be expiring.

Tatar can't be on Crosby's line. A. he's not parting with Jake, I think he's made that clear. B. He can't be the biggest guy on that line. They get shoved around way to much.
I like the idea of Kap on there, although I think he needs to show a bit more grit on it to go get the puck.

I do like the Idea of Savard, there is no way he signs for so little. He'll get 4+ million in FA.
He's out of the penguins price range.
Something tells me the defense is about to get really young. As they don't have a lot of cap. Even if they ship off cap to Seattle, they don't have a lot of cap.

whether or not tatar plays with sid i think hes a great signing. montreal fumbled hard not playing him and i think his price dropped a bit with that. one of petty or matheson is gone for sure imo. it just has to happen if they pens want to get better whether that's adding on f, d or g. marino, tang, dumo are locks of course which leaves the last 3 spots available. matheson is impossible to move so he'll take one spot. i think POJ makes it this year. they'll grab a RHD in FA or go with friedman. i think they need to add a fwd or 2 but im not sure who and whether its through FA or a trade. the key for them tho is goaltending and they'll make the biggest splash there. mrazek shouldn't cost too much

I think Matheson is the guy out the door. I don't think he's impossible to move, especially in this market. It's not like he's a bad player, despite what people think of the contract.
I'd like to think Seattle does a deal and takes him. But honestly it might be McCann.
They can't go with Friedman, he's not very good.
This team is tight to the cap. There has to be some changes. It has to be youth as it's cheap and they have no cap.
If they move McCann, you got Poulin.
They could move ZAR to save cap space and play OConnor. Who is a hell of a player.
If they move one of MP or Matheson, you are probably looking at POJ despite how cringe that will probably end up as he's not ready.
I would not be surprised if we see Maniscalco next year on RD. He's very solid and had a mess of a year last year. But the talent is there.

This team is going to look different next year I think.

ya bringing up a couple young guys on rookie deals wouldn't be the worst idea. i really like legare, especially with his size and the way he uses it. it could allow them to sign at least 1 impact player if they lose the cap hits on zuck and/or matheson. hextall and burke have been doing this for a while and they've been largely successful so i think they'll do a good job. guys like rob rossi scare me, yes tanev is great but losing mccann over him would be god awful and poor asset management. if they really feel like they'll lose him for nothing, i'd deal him for something

I don't think the penguins are in a position where they can deal a guy, it would just mean they lose another like Blueger, which would suck. They have to cut a deal.
As for Legare, I think he has potential, but his skating is not great. He has to grow into the role. He won't be in a pens uniform for 2 years probably. It's his speed that needs to increase.
I think Poulin could start next year by mid season.

the one thing i wonder is how they get "bigger". there aren't many guys on the FA market who offer size and scoring that would come cheap

They need to trade, but teams aren't giving up players with size and skill.
Poulin is a big kid though. 6'3 215lbs was his listing.
They don't have a lot of roster spaces to get size. That's the issue. Where do you play them who do you sit. And when you put guys with Size on the team, they don't play with it aka Carter.

Tatar can absolutely play first line. He's a great offensive player and he's not a liability defensively. Montreal is acting dumb by not resigning him.
