Dont Like It One Bit

Created by: jimmmyg
Team: 2021-22 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 16, 2021
Published: Jul. 16, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
According to Rossi, Penguins are likely protecting:

Forwards: Crosby, Malkin, Guentzel, Rust, Kapanen, Blueger, Tanev
Defense: Letang, Dumoulin, Friedman
Goalie: DeSmith

McCann is a much bigger impact player than Blueger and Tanev, and I don't think it makes sense to lose McCann for nothing because those two are great together. Much easier to replace a 4th line player than a player like McCann, who is cost controlled for another season and can fit on almost any line. Tanev definitely brings something to the team that likely no one else currently can, but take the chance and protect McCann, who will now turn into Seattle's own Marchessault or Alex Tuch. Still possible that Seattle goes with Pettersson or Zucker (or even Jarry), but McCann should not be left unprotected, IMO. Maybe Hexy has a deal set in place to take Pettersson, but I don't like what we are initially hearing.

i don't think it would be the worst thing in the world to lose tanev's 3.5M. i love what he does out there but i think they can find someone comparable on the market

Agreed! He's great for the team and would suck to see him go, but you're absolutely right about finding his replacement vs finding one for McCann or even Zucker. Holding out hope that Hextall has a deal in place to take on Matheson, but so do 31 other teams.

I have been trading for Dube in my NHL GM mode for like 3 years now just trying to wish it to existence - you can't fight fate!

was just talking about this! I am not sure if he is hated and he's definitely not bad, I just think he is the casualty of GMJR's 16 million dollar left defense corps and Penguins fans ALWAYS need a whipping boy. I hope he stays and keeps playing with Marino next year

Would u be interested in a McCann to leafs deal where we send a 2022 2nd, dermott, and Abramov? This way u don’t lose him for nothing. Dermott can play the right side and is a pretty solid guy who is a great skater and responsible defensively. Abramov is a fast, skilled and annoying guy to play against. He was great in the World Juniors.

I don't think it's a bad deal at all, especially because it replaces some depth in the team as well as adding Dermott who can play right now. Not sure if Toronto would be okay with Dermott and a 2nd, but McCann should absolutely be sought after for his shot, PP usage and ability to jump between different lines. He is also cost controlled and RFA next year as well, which is why I was surprised to see him off the protection list.

I think I would say yes to the deal, even if the 2nd round pick is really around 55-60th next year.
