That’s fine for a Jones trade but there are two concerns for me. Number 1, does Colorado outbid this offer, my guess is yes. Number 2, is it worth it to wait until next year’s free agent class in my opinion we should and save the assets.

I like the Suter signing for Chicago. I think he ends up choosing another team that's closer to being a real contender, but if he wants to stay close to home Chicago would be it. Plus there could be the added bonus of playing where his uncle Gary Suter played.

Highly doubt the Hawks give that up for a rental. If there is an extension in place (unlikely) or they have some certainty that Jones will end up extending in Chicago, then Chicago makes that move. Otherwise, Chicago is not in a position to be giving up prized/valuable assets for a rental as they are not a cup chasing team next season.

I agree, I am working under the assumption that they are confident he will extend in Chicago in that comment. Honestly I’m not that big on Jones and I wouldn’t mind him proving his true value on another team next year.

I mean there is no doubt I would like Jones long term on the Hawks at a reasonable price and based on rental value (2021 1st + Mitchell), but writers and people here pretending he is a top 20 defensive player is just false IMO. Sure he got some Norris votes a couple years ago, but looking at the body of his career and more importantly recent play, I don't think he's a top 20 Dman in the league and would be perfectly fine gambling on him hitting free agency next offseason along with Lindholm both who would be great acquisitions to complement the depth of Boqvist, Kalynuk, Murphy, Zadarov (likely signs unfortunately), Mitchell, Regula, Vlassic, Beaudin, etc. We have a very strong defensive future, we just need that #1 and maybe #2 guy to put the unit over the top. Bright things ahead IMO defensively.
