Moving Some Pieces

Initial Creation Date: Jul. 16, 2021
Published: Jul. 16, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Maybe makes more sense to have Heinola to VAN instead of Vesalainen? Not entirely sure of their needs besides clearing cap to sign EP40 and Hughes long term.

Oh boy that NSH deal is gonna be a big no from me. A 24 year old top goal scorer and our best defensive prospect for 30 year old Ryan Ellis should be an easy no for the Jets. Don't get me wrong either, I would love Ryan Ellis on the Jets but just not for that big of a price.

I think in Canucksland we overvalue Boeser but I think VAN has to say no to this deal. I think the deal would have to be Copp, Appleton, DeMelo and a high draft pick for VAN to consider it. That deal at least helps replace a winger spot they need to fill due to Boeser's absence, 3rd line C and another RHD

Throw Tomasino in on their side?

Jets decline that deal so quick lol, and then VAN proceeds to do the same to us. The issue with the VAN deal is that the Jets don’t really have the right piece to give up for boeser. Unless Vancouver would be open to taking like Copp + Vesalainen + 2021 1st. But that’s not close for boeser likely. Maybe they’d be interested in a Boeser + Eriksson for Copp + Samberg + 2021 1st.

That’s fair. I think the basis for both trades is possible, albeit unlikely.

Realistically the best offer Winnipeg could probably do is Boeser + Eriksson for Copp + DeMelo + Gustafsson + 2021 1st.

I used to think we overvalued him as well due to my perceived lack of his defensive awareness and his goal scoring falling off last year. Whatever you may think about the limitations of Corsi as a useful metric for a player's effectiveness, you need only look at his relative CF% from the past few years to understand just how vital Boeser is to anything good that happens for Vancouver.

For what it's worth, totally agree with your assessment of a more realistic trade. Just don't think we should trade him.

You would have to thing the Jets turn down the two trades without much if any discussion.

Ellis is too old and his contact too long for too much to move Heinola or Connor for, let alone both.

Boeser is arbitration eligible and looking for a hefty raise. The Jets would be better off keeping Connor instead of replacing him with Boeser.

That's a complete non-starter for NSH. Tomasino is untouchable for them.

Something around Ellis for Connor is interesting, but what does it look like without Heinola in the return? NSH is more than set when it comes to left defensemen.
