People on here are poor evaluators of talent.
You need guys like tanev to win, especially in the playoffs. If Tanev were exposed he'd be taken.
The trick in the expansion draft is to get a team to take who you want them to take. Who they want them to take is one of either Matheson, Zucker, or McCann.
Realistically they have already cut a deal. But even if they didn't odds are Seattle probably looks at it in that order.
They need to take 9 defensemen. Some of which they will trade.
Matheson, fits into probably the top 4 they can take. He's a puck mover with offensive upside and speed. There isn't much of that in the expansion draft.
If a team had to choose between Zucker and McCann they probably take Zucker. Who is more consistent. Seattle will need scoring wingers. So if they pass up on Defense, they take a scoring winger.
If they want points, and they don't take Zucker than it's McCann.
