You would be adding A LOT to that Flames trade. They are working on an extension so I doubt he is traded.

Adding a 2nd is just the most Toronto homer idea too.

Why wouldn’t they? Nylander is better.

Points, possession skill. He’s just a better player. I would not make the deal even with the 2nd. Leafs have no use for the 2nd. Can’t see benning wanting to add 1m too his Cap issue either.

Boeser led the Canucks in points with 49
Nylander was 4th on the Leafs with 42

    Career PPG
    Boeser .83
    Nylander .73

    Career Corsi rel
    Boeser 14.4
    Nylander 9.9

They are similar players. Nylander can play center so that is an advantage. But Boeser is younger and the better goal scorer. No chance you would add a pick let alone 40th overall if you are the Canucks. Pure Leafs homerism. It comes across in 80% of proposals by Leafs fans.

My opinion nylander is the better player. Eye test sells it. He also only gets 3/4 of the ice time as boesser. Nylander career high in points and goals in a season are both higher than boesser. Who hasn’t broken 60 points or 30 goals. I don’t believe the 9 or so months between them is a big deal. Nylander did have one horrible season point wise when he missed half a year. Other than that he has been fantastic.

No rose coloured glasses here. Nylander is the 2nd best player on the leafs in my opinion. Boesser also has a contract coming due. Could get messy.

So first the metrics were points and possession, then once those were proven false it is eye test.

I can also use excuses as to why Boeser hasn't reached his full potential including a freak back injury, missing his centerman for half the season, his father falling terminally ill. Despite all this he led the Canucks in scoring. They're both really good players and quite comparable. With some better injury luck and without pandemic we might be talking about Boeser as a 40 goal scorer. But again that is what ifs, when we talk actual data Boeser stacks up well. No way you'd add the 40th pick to make that trade.

As for contract I think Nylanders 7.5 is a good comparable, in fact I'm fairly confident it could be less than that considering Nylander signed before the cap freeze.
