Description
Honestly I'm probably on board with a “Good chance at a “ 2nd next year but Pettersson could be a good 2nd pair partner for Boqvist.

CHI
  1. Pettersson, Marcus
Additional Details:
Essentially this is a would you rather exercise… would you rather have an overpaid defenseman (yes pens fans he is absolutely overpaid) for 4 years in which you can probably afford to over pay a guy like him or… would you rather have De Hann, who expires this year but provides a better value?
PIT
  1. De Haan, Calvin
Additional Details:
If you ask me this boils down to what you think De Hann is worth at the deadline. IMO, at 50% retained (or greater) De Hann is worth a 2nd round pick to a competitive GM. So essentially its pettersson vs a good shoot at a, 2nd round pick next year.

Seattle would win the 2022 cup if they left Zadorov off their roster, instead they chose violence and miss the playoffs. You heard it here first.

I'd rather develop our own players and sign a UFA next year. Between Stillman, Jones, Beaudin, and shortly Vlasic...we're fine with the 2nd and 3rd pair guys. We need a top pair LD and we'll likely need to get that via UFA so allow the cap the burn off. Hawks should pass.

    I agree.

Feel like Pettersson and Matheson will be exposed along with Zucker and out of those 3 I'd choose Pettersson going to Seattle.

Prefer to keep DeHaan and gain a prospect/pick at the deadline with retention.

I agree with the other posters here and don't think the Pittsburgh trade puts the Hawks in a better situation. Pettersson doesn't save you much from de Haan and you have him for three additional years.

I was thrilled when Stan landed DeHaan, but it was clear that the Canes knew they were dumping a truck with 250,000 miles on it. He's not remotely the player he was with the Isles, so unfortunately, I don't see him having much value at the TDL unless he has a smashing recovery season this year.

He still tracks well analytically. If he can stay healthy until the deadline I think we will get something for him.
